Enable OA

Easywork

Easywork

OAfurf reminded me of the app she wrote (I think she can do these in her sleep with one hand) for me to test and play with apply one credit to sales invoices that need paid. COMPLETELY documented and written using some of the advanced language to keep it's length as short as possible.

It may not fit your app exactly, but some of the wizards language can be learned and applied anywhere.

I beleive when put in your default OA folder, it self runs when you open it. I have mine in a tips and tricks folder so I sub that folder when I get the error message for the file not found when it opens the DBF window.

Printing in windows

Printing in windows

PS you might have gathered, I have not yet migrated my OS/2 system to windows. The OS/2 and Enable just keep working. Though I am developing a work around using ALPHA five under windows picking up and doing the printing for me , while all the old Enable programs still do the transaction processing. Alpha five does read enable database files quite well.

I export wpf files to wordperfect format which ms word picks up and converts nearly automatically
I have 6 file numbers that I would like to swap with you as I need some more as well

Keys (file numbers)

Keys (file numbers)

We have a collection of 20 keys (file numbers) for networking OA. We'd like to continue adding to that for everyones use. They're noted and filed on the www.Thogscave.com site. Francis may be better at nowing how to download them and share yours for our group.

Have a great day,:)

Graeme, my keys are in with the 20 (I thought 21) on the Thogscave site, I haven't looked for it yet, let me know if you can't find them.
Another 6 would be great.

Sometime ago, I experimented with exporting in different formats and printing from MSWord and yes Wordperfect was the best format, but for real time document generation I needed it to be automatic.

You're correct, I remembered getting a few more keys lined up but forgot they were yours.

Thread Audit

Thread Audit

I don't like the sudden talk of Keygens. I haven't been following this thred too closely, but I sure will be now. Keygens and Microsoft are two things that should NEVER be in the same post. Ever. I'm not entirely sure whats going on, maybe I misunderstood something, maybe not. But with keygens and swapping keys being posted, this thread will remain locked until I can understand that nothing illegal is being done. I'm not being mean or paranoid, we just have to be careful with so many companies being so sue happy anymore. Nothing was deleted or edited in anyway, so do get all up in arms about this. Its just a better safe than sorry type thing ok?

-Vlad

P.S.

The Instant Messengers I use are in my VC Profile, feel free to explain things if you want to.....

Ok, per user request I have removed offending posts and will allow the thread to reopen very close supervision. No posting of keys or talk of keygens. Those have been long standing rules since the beginning, no exceptions.

Note the comments above from Vlad!! Let's keep this forumn open to all OA users that currently know we're here and for those that find us in the future. Tips and Tricks are what this forumn is all about.

Everyone have a Great weekend!!:D

I don't know what those key posting guys were thinking of! Even though I know everything is on the up and up, nobody just hangs things out there that can give the wrong impression. Thanks Vlad.

Not to worry, you weren't even the first one to venture a bunch of keys under the EnableOA banner. As a Aussie wannabe once said "All's well that ends well". /OAfurf

Enable OA still rules (.popup good for another decade)

Enable OA still rules (.popup good for another decade)

I had a chance to look at .popup documents posted at Thogscave last night.

Once I had absorbed (say 2 hours) the gist of the syntax for the parameters and fields, I was away!

I had 'popped' a customer number lookup into an order input program in next to no time and it seems to work a treat.

I am astounded, flabbergasted and mind-blown. It is so elegant, simple, sophisticated and powerful. My imagination is totally running away with the potentials. (It is only imagination at this stage - but...!)

This is a one line application generator!

Thanks again to OAfurf and here's to the Enable OA revival!

Ah, it takes a Hobartian to come up with such elegant, simple, sophisticated and powerful expression. And once your imagination has flown to OA outerspace please let us have the benefit of any flourishes etc. you develop or come across. I'll share a simple .popup flourish here because although I'm the only one using the software, I try to write it as if I'm the village ejit and don't know what to do at each new screen.

I pasted in one of my popup screens, which assigns living accommodations to campground registrants. This may help you with popup screen design. The reason there is a Y in all the EMPTY fields is that once the room or cabin is filled, the record's logical field changes to N and no longer shows in the popup command [according to code].

Okay the hash mark shows okay because it's not a high order character. But everywhere you see a dash or plus sign, it's a handsomer high order character in the app [e.g. column dividers]. The DOS to Windows copy/paste can't handle the high orders. So I had to add a bunch of dashes to get the spacing right because the spacing goes awry on the board if the line exceeds a certain length.

But the popup screen design will accommodate high order and make it look like someone other than the village ejit [i.e. me] designed it. This is usually taken care of after you get the basics to fall correctly on the screen. Enjoy. /OAfurf

Get EnableOA and have fun with it

Get EnableOA and have fun with it

For anyone who does not have EnableOA we have a freebie download for you [I bought up a bunch of licenses when Enable Software announced it was going down for the count].

And we have a fine bunch of EnableOA warrior users who are too happy to supply tech support, again gratis. /OAfurf

I would like to know how to get this software. I have a friend with a large collection of Enable documents and no software to retrieve them. (Backed up the documents, but when the drive crashed he couldn't find the disks to reinstall.) I would greatly appreciate your help.

Welcome Pomru, and which continent  are you on? Our last 3 joiners -- thanks to The Vintage Computer Forum -- were from over the pond [England] and down under [Australia and NZ]. You've come to the right place, the EnableOA revival. Not only should you be able to accommodate your friend [does he remember if he used some cut of Version 4.5 or was it an earlier version? No matter, older version files can still be read], you/he can learn how to have EnableOA issue commands to other Windows apps, etc.

Get onto the EnableOA working group at:
http://www.thogscave.org/mailman/listinfo/enableoa, and once admitted, download the .iso file from which you can install the final OA cut 61.6. If you have any difficulty connecting to thogs leave a message back here. Your friend should remember the name of his default data directory to which he will restore his backups [or if another name is chosen, specify it as the data default directory during the install process].

Also there are a few fun mini-apps in OA available in this Vintage chain... for later when your friend is up and running. / OAfurf

Of computers and continents...

Of computers and continents...

Actually, I'm in North America, in New York. My wife is originally from over the Pond (Netherlands) but before she met me she never got near a computer.

The version of OA my friend has is unknown. He didn't know enough about it, his boss just gave him the software (shrinkwrap and all) as a way to enable him to work at home so he could help with the kids. Different job, different house, lost box and manuals, and now lost original disks. It's amazing how many people lose or throw away things they shouldn't.

As I type this I see in my email that there were several messages indicating some concern that I disappeared? :) No, just have a REALLY lousy work schedule. That and recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD. Working on bringing that under control among other things. I may not post often (at least for a while) but I'll let you know how goes the data recovery.

Um, what, exactly, is "/frfr*"?

Okay, so we're both in New York State [I'm originally from Brooklyn]. And the frfr are my initials which a bunch of teens in bygone years started to pronounce as furfur and then they invented a shorthand version dropping the last two letters and sounding like "furf". So I use various combos of these initials depending on what board I'm on.

Once you get your friend recovered, get him onto this board. We'll move his EnableOA knowledge up a notch or two. /OAfurf

.popup update

.popup update

Just three months since I read the documentation for the .popup command.
It has indeed fulfilled (and is still fulfilling) the promise I glimpsed back then.

.popup integrates beautifully with the Enable database and programming language and it has revolutionised dozens of my applications.

Put it together with the menuing, the mouse control, the spreadsheets all "integrated without compromise" and you have a formidable array of capabilities, all packed in a neat little package(by modern standards).

It runs fine under Windows (DPMI), has anyone tried it with Vista?
