Older notebooks

I have find very older laptops for small price in a used product big market in italy.
This market not have desktops,only laptops.
What's the differences from 8086 to 8088?
If the display is broken,i can use the laptop with my new lcd monitor?
This older notebooks have a serial port to connect my 56kb modem?
I need info on this machines :)

Very little...
One runs slightly faster as it has a 16 bit bus to the memory the other has an 8bit bus, otherwise they use the same components and have the same opcode.

Thats pretty simple to figure out,
A) If the laptop has a VGA connector that attaches to your LCD then YES,
B) If it has a 9pin connector or none at all NO.
this assumes of coarse that the laptop is otherwise complete and beeps when it is turned on.
