  • From now on we will require that a prefix is set for any items in the sales area. We have created regions and locations for this. We also require that you select a delivery option before posting your listing. This will hopefully help us streamline the things that get listed for sales here and help local people better advertise their items, especially for local only sales. New sales rules are also coming, so stay tuned.

Hello all,

I have a humongous pile of material that I need to get rid of. I can't just give these away, but I am willing to sell them individually on eBay with a starting price of $0.99.

If you see anything on this list that tickles your fancy, let me know and I'll take pics of it and post it on eBay, and advise you of when the auction starts. Shipping is possible for a nominal fee, depending on the size of the item, and local pickup costs nothing.

Whichever items get no response or interest whatsoever will be recycled.

Nothing will leave the campus with a hard drive intact, just FYI. Consumables, like head cleaners, are OK for me to sell, but no exposed recording media will be sold.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

I realize that some of this stuff is too recent to be of interest (like some of the monitors) but I have just included everything. The excel spreadsheet didn't transfer to this text box very well, let me know if something doesn't make sense.

Regarding functionality of anything, "I know nuttink!", I am only the middle-man trying to sell the items on behalf of the university. I am not a techie. Assume nothing works and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks,

Stephen

So, if we want something we tell you and then we get to compete in an eBay auction for it? If that is the case why not just list them all on eBay?

FWIW thought, most folks around here would generally deal with eBay as a last resort...

Since it's company/business owned equipment it's a bit more difficult to get things offloaded. Ebay is acceptable for some companies/organizations opposed to the other requirements of disposal. When I was at the state we were pretty much required to give it to our local prison network and they'd destroy it for profit (and shivs..er.. I mean).

So while it's not an upfront sale to a citizen he's just doing his best to offload it to us if he can. Just thought I'd explain it a little lol since I remember when he first joined and the conversation had.

Thanks Stephen!

Why eBay?

Why eBay?

I have to sell using a fair and competed process, as I am in public procurement- eBay auctions allow me to do that. For audit purposes, eBay also provides an accountable sales process.

If I had 20 of each of these, and knew what the value was, I could sell them straight up. Anything of nebulous value, I auction.

The reason I don't list everything at once is I simply do not have the time. Items of interest, I'll sell. Items of no interest, I recycle, which is a lot faster.

I don't want to throw away anthing that might be of use. I personally don't get any commission or anything, regardless of what I sell the items for. That would be a conflict of interest.

lol so are they smart enough that you post it in an auction and buy it yourself? Not sure if that's bad but I guess since others get to bid it's still fair. I know you don't do that, it just made me laugh thinking about how I'd be trying to if I was seeing a bunch of vintage stuff go past me.

That's the beauty of the online auction- fair and competed means that I could bid on the stuff myself- if I was willing to pony up the most dough. I have sold things to UVic employees, not knowing who they were, until they contacted me to pay.

I could sneak around the system and list things for a one day auction, no pics and no details, and be the only bidder, but that would probably show up in an audit.

However, I am completely not interested in this stuff, but I appreciate there is value there to someone. The problem is I am a one-man-band on this end and I can't keep up with the volume- can't sell fast enough.

Again, because it sure would be easier to recycle the lot, I am just trying to do the right thing.

I dunno, multiply how many pieces make up the system by $0.99...

Figure the size and weight would be about the same as a 6-person hot-tub, fully loaded with water and people.

Would that fit in your basement?

shipping option...

shipping option...

FYI, if anyone did want to buy a lot of the items, I have access to cardboard pallet totes that could take a lot of material. Your cost, figure CAN$ 40/tote.

Probably the safest way to ship this sort of thing- if you had enough to fill it up and justify the freight.

Hmmm, noticed you're in BC, which probably means the computer kit might come out to $10 but the shipping more like $1000. It would likely not fit in my basement (I was half-kidding) but it would be cool to own it. Curious as to what the larger pieces look like so whenever you can get pics up would be great. Thanks.
