Hi there, as a last present to myself before austerity rolls in (and hastening it rather too much) I've treated myself to a nice early '70s processor.
Only problem is getting it exported from the far north west US to the UK at a reasonable price. The costs vary wildly. I had a shipper over here, but since 9/11 they can only take from registered companies (in industrial areas!) main problem being weight (at 120lb, a bit big for most carriers).
I have an international removals company I'm currently filling the forms out for, but I'm confused as some of the forms don't seem at all applicable, and I'm a bit uncomfortable.
So a quick request for anyone with any recommendations (24 hour time limit on replies!)

DHL is one of the simplest import/exporters to deal with. I've used them with great success, and they handle all the paperwork.

I agree - too bad they only do international shipments now. They had UPS & FedEx beat as far as I was concerned.
 
I'm waiting for a quote from DHL. it is looking the best so far, but it initially looked like my parcel was too heavy for them.
 
I'm not sure about pricing, they weren't super cheap but Con-Way did a good job and were trusted by the shipper I bought my IMSAI and accessory collection from. It weighed somewhere around 200lbs and had to be freight.

The only catch was once it got to a local drop zone I had to get it myself (they had a forklift and put it in the back of my truck for me). Dude was actually pretty helpful even giving me two extra palettes to keep it from moving or tilting towards my rear window.

Again, it's probably the only one I've dealt with for very heavy packages other than FedEx, I have no idea how it compares in price though. I imagine DHL is probably cheaper.

Oh, Come ON, you can't tease us like that :evil: What kind of goodness have you bought? With a respectable weight, age and incentive to ship from the states it has to be good :D

If you want to wait until you get it home, I suppose we can wait.

Well, at least I learned a new word (austerity). I hope the shipping works out.
 
use www.bonvu.com - they are located in Texas and they are specialist and they have better DHL conditions than any private person. I have used them often to ship from US to Europe.

Not sure if it's coming by plane or boat, but there's a LOT of atlantic out there.

Thanks Alker for the Bonvu link, I ditched the last people, and got in touch with bonvu who were quick to reply, helpful & CHEAP too. fingers crossed it'll be picked up in the next day or two. I'll enlighten you as to the nature of the beast when it gets here (Core.... Lots....)
