Linux for a 25MHz 386 laptop with 4MB RAM

Got myself a Compaq Contura 3/25c 386 laptop with 4MB RAM and a 207MB hard disk. Any suggestions on which linux distribution to put on it?

Also looking for a linux boot floppy image that can boot on this laptop, preferable with fdisk. Most I have tried require a 486.

This subject comes up from time to time. Here's an older thread.

I seem to remember there was monkeylinux and certainly there's tomsrtbt which should work well. However, since this is the Vintage computer forum I'm guessing you want to be historically correct. Try http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/historic-linux/ or http://linux-distributions.org/

Lepton Linux might be the go if you get hold of it.

I used slackware on these back in the late 80's early 90's timeframe. I recall building my own kernel to get various video and Ethernet combos to work.

I used BasicLinux on Compaq 486 laptop with 4MB RAM:

Maybe it could work with a 386
