Hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum. I just acquired an IBM 5155  and it came with a Tecmar memory expansion card. There are jumpers and switches on this card, but I don't know how to use them. Does anybody know how to configure this card? There's also a battery on the board. Why is that and what can I do with it?

That is a Tecmar Captain. So far as I know, there is no info available on line except this ebay auction that has six different Tecmar users manuals from the early 1980's to include the Tecmar Captain user's manual.
So the info is available if you want to spend the 17 bucks to get it <g>

You are not the first person here to look here for that info. So far I have not seen the question answered or I may have missed the answer.
If you or someone here buys these then please scan them and make available for the people that need this info. Hope this helps.

Welcome to these forums.

The motherboard in your 5155 does not contain a real-time clock (stores current date/time). Your Tecmar card does, and the battery is there to keep the real-time clock (RTC) ticking when you power off the 5155.

Expect to see some specific clock software being loaded at boot time (via CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT), software that reads the date/time from the real-time clock on your Tecmar card, putting that date/time into the DOS clock (the DOS clock is what you see when you run the DOS commands DATE and TIME).

I went looking for my Tecmar cards to see if I could work out the switch settings. A search reveals that they're not in the house, which means they must be in storage. They have the old black bracket, and at least one has stamping that looks as though IBM may have supplied it.

Anyhow, I decided to purchase the Tecmar manuals on eBay to support my cards. I will pay for them by not eating out at KFC for the next few weeks, something definitely beneficial at my age. A win-win! I will scan the manuals and make them available with existing manuals on my web site (http://www.minuszerodegrees.net)

Now if that's not the duck's nuts :)

That's AWESOME!

The DOS floppy didn't came with a config.sys and a autoexec.bat on it and I can't find a timer related driver on the disk. Is there anyone out there that has a working driver?

Does anyone have a copy of the Tecmar 'Treasure Chest' diskettes that came with the Captain memory card ?
