Here I'm, exactly one year and 10 days after I joined the vintage-computer forums, doing my introduction tread. My name is Lucas, I'm 24 years old, live in Brazil, in Belo Horizonte city. I like to play soccer, and of course, i love computers, especially the x86 architecture. My first computer was a Kemitron (Kemitron was a computer factory, from my city) AMD 486 DX4-100, that's still with me, works ok (but have serious motherboard problems, but was like this when I got it in 2002), unfornately the original hard drive is dead (Seagate ST3491A), and I'm looking for one identical to replace. When I was younger, I started to draw animated happy faces on QBASIC, but I stopped programming (don't remember why). Today I like to do math stuff in PASCAL (I'm at a math college). I have about 2000lbs in computer parts here, from XTs to Pentium 3, almost everything works (after several tries ;)). I joined the forums looking for a Roland LAPC-I for a friend, almost bough one from PeterNY (where's he now???), but I did find one in Argentina, and the shipping talked louder. I began to read more about vintage computing, and the 12 years old boy feeling have appeared again! Then I back to were I belong, near vintage computers, and vintage gaming consoles.

Well, I guess that is it.

My current projects are:

1)Finishing my parts list, with pics, state, etc.
2)Finishing my IBM 5160 clone, needs FH floppy, keyboard, and monitor.
3)Repairing my first phosphorus monitor!
4)Finishing the mount my little collection, 8 fully functional machines (8088, 8008 turbo,286-12,386-40,486-66,586-133,pentium 90,pentium 3 750).
5)Make the another parts work, and donate/sell what I don't need.

I want to say thanks to everyone that helped me, I will say a few names that I remember right now, not in order of importance ,

hargle, you were incredible friendly with me, your parts made my dream come true. Thanks for everything.

Trixter, the 8088 corruption was mind blowing, I will never forget this. Thanks for the help with the GUS.

DOS live on!!, You've made me believe that my lack of experience wouldn't be a real problem, thanks for the twenty for seven help.

Chromedome45, You have the same age of my Dad, and I see you as sort of my 5160 clone Dad, thanks for the parts, with them my XTs booted! As my Dad, you're very friendly, and helped me without fear. Thank you.

Stone, always ready to offer something useful, great advises! Sadly I still did not get something from you, but soon I will, I promise! Thank you.

Chuck, I see you as a perfect teacher, knows everything, and when the subject is something that you aren't a specialist you still know much more than a lot of people that was on that kind of system for a life. Thanks for the help with the clone board, now her boots!

Maverick1978, You're very skilled with sound cards, that scares me, thanks for all the help with all Roland Stuff, the money I win was 100% used on XT's parts, thanks for all the help!

modem7, your help with the Microtec was great! Thank you!

And there's a lot of other people that treated me like a brother, I won't forget this.
Thanks to everyone!

And I want to thank the moderators, for making this forum happen.

Thanks again, and best regards to everyone!

Lucas

2000 lbs in parts?! ;-) Seems like you should rummage through those if you're looking for anything. Glad you've enjoyed yourself here and found a great place to hang out and participate. Hm I just realized we have a few personnel in Brazil this week but they're just chatting with banks down there. We're all joking about everyone keeping in mind that it's Winter there (so we all don't feel jealous) but it's Texas... we'd love to go be in winter right now so that trick didn't work.

Have you hung out on the irc channel much? A few regulars seem to be there. I always seemed to show up after everyone's asleep but seems like a neat idea to get more folks there for realtime troubleshooting or just to say hey from their vintage computers.

Well, an official welcome to the forums, Lucas. :)

You've certainly contributed to the forums, and we've enjoyed you here. I liked this place on day 1 when I signed up.:)
I don't have 2000 pounds of computer stuff, but I'm working my way up there. Especially since I discovered the Weird Stuff Warehouse (They have an Ebay store, so you may add to your collection of stuff.)

Anyway, good luck with your projects, and it's nice having you here. I'll also extend the offering to hop on the IRC and talk with us.

Last night I had to open 3 motherboard (something near 30 boards) boxes to find my 386 test board...;)). I never used IRC, I will surelly give a try! I've seen there's a version for 8088 class, and I liked it! And about the winter, today is one of the coldest day from this year, and I'm confortably wearing a regular t-shirt, in my city (usually) there's no winter, only a soft summer. The temperatur lower record from the last 25years (in my city) was something near 57º Fahrenheit.

It's nice to meet people on vintage computing.

You'll see familiar faces on there, along with some people trying out Mike's mTCP using IRCjr to get onto the IRC. Is that the one you saw, or did you find LeetIRC?

I'm talking about LeetIRC, but will give a look into that too!
Thanks for all the help.
