A New S-100 Bus SVAG Video Board

Analog VGA is starting to disappear. While it's easy to generate with simple ladders, a more advanced solution is probably needed long term for retro-computing. I've been looking at redesigning and porting Project VGA to an ISA form factor, but adding HDMI as an improvement. The whole design can be simplified and made more generic from a bus interface point of view. The FET based QuickSwitch parts make 5V tolerant I/O easy w/o the need for limiting clamp current.

Other projects can serve as a basis as well such as OpenVGA

Hi! John Monahan and I have been working on an SVGA display compatible S-100 board and it is almost ready to go.

While it is not SVGA register compatible it does allow for an economical SVGA compatible display for your S-100 system.

A viable PCB manufacturing order is at least 20 orders just to pay for the boards, tooling, shipping, etc.

There are approximately 12 “firm” PCB requests and as soon as this project is viable I will make the manufacturing order.

Thanks and have a happy holidays!

PS, if cash and/or paypal is an issue, we can make trades for certain computer parts, electronic components, tools, metals, coins, unused gift cards, shipping materials, scrap, etc. Please let’s discuss!

Hi

Here is an update on the S-100 LAVA PCBs. They have arrived and most of them have gone out to their builders. There are about 8 or 9 left over in case anyone would like to build one or more.

They are $20 each with $3 shipping in the US and $6 elsewhere. Please send a PayPal to LYNCHAJ@YAHOO.COM and I will send your board right away!

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hi
There still are a few of the S-100 LAVA PCBs in case anyone is looking for one or more. These are really nice S-100 boards to generate an SVGA monitor compatible display. Very handy as a terminal replacement! John is updating the S100computers.com page description which should be done soon.

The PCBs are $20 each plus $3 shipping in the US and $6 elsewhere. Please send a PayPal to LYNCHAJ@YAHOO.COM

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hi

There are three (3) S-100 Regular Prototyping board PCBs and eight (8) S-100 LAVA PCBs still available

aka “Basic S-100 Prototype Board” (scroll down to the second board description). These are going fast so please act soon if you would like one or more. Approximately 90% of the boards have already gone to their builders.

S-100 LAVA PCB is for a VGA monitor compatible display. Uses Mylium LAVA-10 chip module (based Spartan-3 FPGA)

The S-100 LAVA works fine and does what it was designed to do quite well. However, in my personal opinion the S-100 LAVA capability has been barely even touched since the current software uses the board as a VGA monitor compatible text terminal replacement. I believe it is capable of quite a bit more text and graphics capability with further developed software.

The S-100 LAVA is capable of 800x600 @ 16 bit display (65536 colors -- RGB565) with 32MB of SDRAM and 8 MB of Flash it should be easily capable of being an X-Window server and who knows what else. It makes a logical pairing with upcoming S-100 80386 CPU and S-100 68K CPU board PCBs currently in development.

These PCBs are $20 each plus $3 shipping in the US and $6 elsewhere.

Please send a PayPal to LYNCHAJ@YAHOO.COM and I will send your boards right away!

Thanks and have a nice day!
