I'm wanting to remove the original NiCd battery from my 386 board and use an external battery. Unfortunately, my manual for the board is in a box 900 miles away in my parents' basement. There are minimal identifying marks on the board, so my online search has been unsuccessful. My best guess for connecting the battery would be J6 (see picture), but I'm not about to wire it up without knowing for sure. Any help?

Yes J6 looks like the spot.
Remove the jumper, connect external battery with positive facing "V+" on the PCB, and negative going to pin 4. Pins 2 and 3 not connected.

I was impressed the first time I spotted this setup. You get an external battery jumper + clear CMOS jumper + external battery connector - all with 4 pins.

No harm in checking with a multimeter first though :)
