Hello All,

I'm in the process of refurbishing an early switching PSU from a Commodore 8296D and I'm trying to identify the orange disc component in the attached image. I think it's a high voltage capacitor but I'm not certain, and neither do I understand the markings. If it is a cap, what is 6.8nM ? When I initially opened it up, it had a thin layer of wax on the outside which I assume has slowly leeched out over the last 30 years. After running the PSU in for a couple of hours, the heat generated melted the wax and you can see it on the PCB underneath the component.

All this tells me that I should probably replace them (there is another identical one the others ide of the heatsink), but don't know what to replace it with.

Any insights appreciated.

regards, Rob

Looks like a normal disc capacitor. You generally do not need to replace them unless they have visually been chipped, cracked or blown up.
