    KIM-1 Repairs continue

Why would I care about kits specifically for a KIM-1? I enjoy reading the comments but since those don't apply to me I don't get into the details. I don't know why so many are so negative here? This used to be a positive forum. Seems like it's getting more and more like cctalk. Maybe it's...

My research about graphics of the Pro

I will check into that. Hopefully it comes in small quantities. Would like to find out this is not the drive ready to explode.

    KIM-1 Repairs continue

Of course I knew it was a KIM-1 repair thread. I know almost nothing about one as I have never had one or seen one. I merely asked specificallly what did your board do? Guess I should have passed on doing that. I won't make that mistake again with you.

    KIM-1 Repairs continue

What do you mean "What thread am I in"? The one you just replied to me in. It's the "Kim-1 repairs continue thread". How could you not know, or am I missing something here? All I see above is a picture of the board connected to a Kim-1. I understand that people may not know about this or...

    KIM-1 Repairs continue

Hey, if it works for you and makes things easier then I say go for it. Plus you learn about laying out PCBs which I have never tried. What does it do? Maybe others could use this? You have the required cup of tea, so you started on the right foot. :)

What kind of oil? I doubt I have any here.

Plugging in power to other side..

I would like to do a 68000 but I have never worked with one. I have 8080s and Z80s, so decided I would do a very basic Z80 system. Just on a breadboard. Never done wirewrap. I know it's not that hard, but still takes some practice. I have no desire to do a full TTL processor. I dabble in...

Plugging in power to other side..

I feel that you are doing just fine. You're learning to use a scope which I recently had to do too. Yes, it's intimidating at first. I have a bit of EE background, but I am really an old programmer at heart. I have been doing what you want to do someday: building a basic Z80 system from...

    Hi from Romania!

    Welcome to the forums.

My research about graphics of the Pro

It's not an RD32. I must have been confusing it with the drive in the Decmate. It's an RD51 if that makes any difference. It's hard to see as the spindle motor is buried under the controller board. I can see this "arm" that comes over to the spindle tip. So I am guess this is the spring you...

My research about graphics of the Pro

Looks like it's time for me to archive this RD32 using Dave Gesswein's MFM emulator. The drive is making squeeling noises to the bearings are likely dry and may be ready to fail. I'd like to get the data that's on the drive to something else (thus the MFM emulator). Now I just have to find...

My research about graphics of the Pro

I am trying this again. I did manage to format a floppy on the Rainbow using "format b: /i". It has Kermit, but my Mac does not. I tried the Serial program to send a file but it fails. I made sure the port settings matched. I can't really tell if it's really connected. I will keep at it...

    Tantalum Capacitor

A quick Internet search reveals this: Read the first two digits of the numeric code. The first two digits are the significant digits. For example: A capacitor is marked with 224M. The first two digits of the value are 22. Add the number of zeros indicated by the third numeric digit to the first...

    Kaypro 2X boot disks

As far as I know whatever ROM version you have you have to find the matching CP/M. So it seems to be 2.2U. I have a 292 ROM and use 2.2G. What are you creating your floppies on? I stuck a 360k drive into my DOS machine so I could make floppies. This worked with no problems. If you're using...
