Lack of drivers and problems with the operation of VM with Windows 98SE

I don't get why anybody might suggest installing some drivers for a VMWare apart from VMWare Tools. The "devices" are VMWare emulated ones, so its the only vendor who might provide a driver. Any driver from an actual hardware device can't be reasonably expected to work, as it is not an 100%...

    Sizzling Model 1 monitor

If I was very curious and had two identical or very similar shematic monitors like you do, I would start to switch components one by one until the issue is transplanted from unit to unit.

    Sizzling Model 1 monitor

Other photos inside that monitor suggest they did not bother to have a cup, weird

A is “anode cap”, usually it’s a literal suction cup, my little knowledge suggests it should be there to prevent arching, let’s wait for Hugo to expert opinion

New England FS: Digital HiNote VP 575 Pentium MMX Laptop

Did you try cleaning cdrom drive lens? Just curious what might be broken there, sure they have caps and laser led might wear out, but might be simply dirt.

Printer buffer makes sense, as early printers did not have buffer and needed to get commands as they become ready and system were not properly multi-tasked, one could not do anything else while printing. I am not sure this device is for this purpose though. Or if such devices even existed.

Getting rid of the HDD, ISDE to SD DOS

Getting rid of the HDD, ISDE to SD DOS

I've explored flash modules and the thing that stopped me is they are all quite old and probably nearing flash memory write cycle limit if not already weared off (its still flash memory, so it has the same longevity limitation eny other flash memory has)

Getting rid of the HDD, ISDE to SD DOS

I would expect PATA to SD to behave the same as PATA to SATAs I have: they only work as master so they must be on a separate IDE channel from older HDD to boot from old one. I would not hold my breath expecting it would work as master with anything on the same cable too even if that anything is...

Getting rid of the HDD, ISDE to SD DOS

    > Also, reading the HDD data off the old drive may not be too easy If HDD still works and machine boots, it might be as easy as install IDE to SD as a second drive and transfer files using that same machine. Maybe even make it bootable on the spot.

MicroChannel - Unable to determine correct ADF file for 3Com EtherLink/MC TP card

One note, search on the ardent-tool does not really work, I have more success by browsing by categories, its organized pretty good.

MicroChannel - Unable to determine correct ADF file for 3Com EtherLink/MC TP card

I doubt there is a better source than https://www.ardent-tool.com/tech/MCA.html and https://www.ardent-tool.com/config/adf_info.html in particular. From what I see the id is on the device and reference disc util tries to match it with the adf. And for some adapaters the whole disc is required...

Modern hard drive replacement for IBM PS/2 Model 80?

McIDE-CF works in model 70 but does not on model 50z (I have two of them, both don't work: as soon as I enable McIDE bios, it hangs on boot after drive select menu) probably something related to 50z having 16 bit MCA but I am not sure

Modern hard drive replacement for IBM PS/2 Model 80?

I had success with certain SCSI adapter/zulu SCSI/SCSI2SD/Model of PS/2 combination (most work in M70, some work in M50z). Long story short, as long as the system sees the SCSI adapter properly in BIOS (whatever IBM calls it on PS/2) it is as simple as format/partition the SD card in zulu with...

What is this? Post Photos of Mystery Items Here (vintage computers only)

It says it’s pcmcia, but it does not say how to tell apart this connectors from ide which look very similar. So do you connect a device that was initially conceived as a card with a ribbon cable to this? Weird.

What is this? Post Photos of Mystery Items Here (vintage computers only)

How do you tell them apart? I believe you, it makes sense, but I can’t find any information what kind of a device could use such connection. There is a lot about cards, but they seems to not fit there
