Video RAM Fault on a Rainbow 100A

I haven't looked at dissembled ROMs in a while, but my next stop would be looking through the ROM file for the “Main Board Video” in plain text if it exists. And if it does, I would be seeing where it could be referenced or called elsewhere in the ROM. My thought would be it would lead me to...

    VAX 4000-300 DSSI dies?

There's hope for them yet! And I can second the general robustness of these DSSI drives. The pair of RF35s in my 4000-100 are still spinning.

    VAX 4000-300 DSSI dies?

You're right I miss read the document (RF Series ISE User Guide) I was reading, specifically what I have in bold from page 2-28: POST The other diagnostic program that runs at system initialization is called power-on self-test (POST). The POST firmware tests the hardware on the drive module...

    VAX 4000-300 DSSI dies?

I'd expect the drive would start up, load its on-board OS, and then fail its POST as it can't reach the host. This would be indicated if both the power and fault LEDs turn on and stay on. My reading of your initial post doesn't make it clear to me (this is mostly likely my fault 🙃 ), but have...

    VAX 4000-300 DSSI dies?

While it's not a pedestal unit, on my VAX 4000-100A there's this blue wire that snakes off the power connector down to the motherboard. I believe it's the wire referred to in some documentation as "POK to ISE" or "ACLO to ISE" I don't know if the RF73's have this though.

    Xybernaut MA-IV Windows Install

Still waiting on the IDE SSD, which will hopefully work, but an industrial CF card with adapter will be next in line if it doesn't. I have since gotten the replacement battery, which charged, but hasn't allowed the Xybernaut to power on. While the pinout and voltage of the ME202EK is the same...

    Xybernaut MA-IV Windows Install

Thanks for idea, I kept thinking I had to create a pocket universe to do this and couldn't come down from that. We'll just have to see about the SSD. I was running into a lot of conceptual obstacles involving CF cards and adapters and their temperamental nature while researching how to replace...

    Xybernaut MA-IV Windows Install

Hi All, Got one of these fantastically geeky things recently (maybe some of you saw it) and it has two issues I'm working through. Battery isn't working, big surprise. It's a Molicel ME202BB. I've got a replacement battery coming that seems to have the same pinout, voltage, and form...

    DEC units on ebay

Havn't posted here in a while... Anyway, rather curious item showed up in my eBay feed. The Mini-Exchange: https://www.ebay.com/itm/226235391933 Seems to be a device that lets your Rainbow computers share things like printers...

Vaxstation 4000/60 Power Supply & Monitor Questions

No worries, I'm also aware of that, as I've had to do a recap for a variant of the same PSU and found that to be the case. Seems as if that was a standard design at DEC to have the fans internal to the PSU. When I was last in it, the fans didn't seem to have any circuitry that would lead me to...

Vaxstation 4000/60 Power Supply & Monitor Questions

I'd imagine it's full 12v as I've never heard my 4000 or 3100 systems regulate the fan speed, has just been a constant drone.

    PATHWORKS info

7.4 as far as I know was the last and I have no idea where a copy for OS/2 could possibly be. I can definitely answer the licensing. In my tinkering I needed to have the copy of Pathworks licensed on my VAX 4000 for my Windows for Workgroups machine to pull down a license. It was a fussy...

Sun Ultra 5 RAM Upgrade Issue

So I have a Sun Ultra 5 that has 256MB of RAM in it and I got an identical set of 128MB DIMMs to push it up to 512MB. Only to find that the opening header still says 256MB. Swapped the DIMM pairs and it still says the same, so they all work, just not together it seems. I have OpenBoot 3.25 on...

    Imagine the Possibilities, 90s Video

Bought this VHS off eBay a month or so ago and got around to copying it. I know it's rather dry, but there's VAXes in it!! That makes up for it right? :p https://youtu.be/6Vx2Apv0zLg

    Awesome Rainbow setup on eBay

No relation to the seller and if I had one, it wouldn't be on eBay. :p Wish I was near Maynard right now because this is a nice piece: https://www.ebay.com/itm/dec-Digital-Equ-Corp-original-RAINBOW-100-SYSTEM-ON-STAND-WITH-SOFTWARE-pdp-RUNS-/143346243551?&_trksid=p2056016.m2516.l5255

Adding LA75 printer to VAX 4000

At a bit of a loss on something so seemingly obvious. I'm trying to add my newly acquired LA75 to my VAX 4000 running VMS 6.1, but I'm not finding it in the SHOW DEVICES list. The operators manual for the VAX does say I can add a printer to the serial ports, one of which I have the...

    Leaking Caps in H7821 PSU

So one of the capacitors in my VAXserver 3100 decided to start leaking. I had it on and picked up that fishy smell. Poked around and found some residue around the base of a capacitor, great... So these caps are on the far side away from mains input and more on the side of the outputs to the...

    DECdirect Interactive Catalog

Here's something from my collection that I haven't found online, the Fall 1995 DECdirect Interactive Catalog complete with software, hardware, and services listings. Amusingly includes a few games and a program that animates a cat that follows your mouse cursor. Installs on WFW or Win 95...

    WTB: DEC MMJ Loopback Adapter

Just needing one of the things, part number is 12-25083-01 and model number H3103. Could make my own, but it would be neat to have an authentic one.

    DEC 17-02294-01 cable

Hi all, wondering if anyone has the cable in the title. It'll look like a 68-pin SCSI cable with only two female ends. It's for interfacing a DSH32 module with a distribution module for a MicroVAX/VAXserver 3100. Willing to buy and/or pay for shipping! Really appreciate it!
