Extended Arithmetic Element (EAE) re-implementation using current TTL ICs?

And if I did the above I'd get a set so I can have EAE on my 8/L.

Extended Arithmetic Element (EAE) re-implementation using current TTL ICs?

Correction: *Building* a BM08/L is a problem. I could just gut one of the pdp8/L's, remove all the wiring, and rewire it as a BA08 or BM08. I have a full set of pdp8/I cards, so probably enough to handle the card side, but that would be a shame. I do also have a broken 3U size block of flip...

    Finding a bm8l or a ba08 is the problem........

Floppy drives for an 11/73 with an RQDX3.

The Gotek needs the Flashfloppy and for best emulation results needs to be configured as a Shugart and not an IBMPC device in the config. Then for one drive set it to drive 0 (I believe check my post on the Pro380 and Gotek) on a flat 34 pin ribbon cable. For two of them set one as drive 0...

Floppy drives for an 11/73 with an RQDX3.

Getting a Gotek with the flashfloppy will make your life a lot happier than fiddling with physical disks. I've gotten two of them running on my Pro/350 (in another thread) so you can perfectly emulate an RX50 pair for installs. Also the TK50 is a fine tape unit, just need to lubricate the...

    Q/CD slot compatible cards

Side thought: When I pull out my 11/73 CPU I just stick the 11/23+ CPU in slot 2 or 3 and be done with it. Doesn't seem to cause problems in a BA23 and avoids the rest of the CD stuff. The only cards that I know of which have CD issues are true CD cards (MSV11-J) or the 8013/8014. They will...

    TU58 repair and tolerances

Well, let's see.... After doing a bit more work with the analyzer I see READ_STROBE and READ_DATA are both sending data from the tape system. So it looks like everything is working in terms of getting data off a tape, but the controller still barfs. It's *possible* that all of these tapes were...

    TU58 repair and tolerances

Ok, interesting. Let me type out my notes. First I decided to start at the latching flip flop at the end of the circuit chain. This is E4, which is a normal flip flop which takes as a clock the output of the "bit detect" circuit on pin 3, and the "bit value" circuit on pin 5. Sure enough when I...

    TU58 repair and tolerances

Ok. Based on that schematic I should check at the output of E29's Op Amp (pin 13) to see the raw signal shaped. That leads to the input to the clocker which outputs at E29. If I see signals there then it's spotting *something* at the heads. If not, will walk back.

    TU58 repair and tolerances

So, in the "It ain't gonna fix itself" category I figured I would work on this drive again. Fired up xxdp+ 2.5 and while I don't know where the TU58 tests are I can do a dir dd1: and have the unit try to load. It fails, but it's consistent. Big problem is what's going on. I took a look at the...

    PDP-12 Power supply question

Pretty simple: Measure the peak current of your machine in a running state and set the fuse to be slightly higher than that. I've put "safety" fuses into a number of things like my 30 year old electric truck, and if something goes wrong they blow well before components do.

    PRO RX50 controller firmware

Checking to see how this is going, I have an extra floppy controller with a bad 8051 myself....

    PDP-12 Power supply question

In the meantime, I'd really recommend putting in some safety fuses in line with the factory breaker. It's 50 years old at this point and I would not count on it to protect anymore. Maybe as an on-off switch. The 8/L's have fuses in them, and yes they are worth replacing.

Using GoTek floppy emulators on a Professional 350/380

No problem. I loved the Pro, and one of my pet projects now that I have it running is to figure out how to do a Sysgen of M+ to support the Split I/D of the Pro/380. I don't think it's impossible, just need to do a lot of trial and error. Which would be a lot easier with virtual floppies and a...

Using GoTek floppy emulators on a Professional 350/380

Good morning! Wanted to get this down here for others who might have this issue: I have a pair of Professional/380 systems that I used to use long ago with P/OS 2.0. One system had a RD52 drive (31mb) and the other had an RD51 (10mb). The better system has a working RX50+controller, hard disk...

I wonder if it makes the sound of a 57 Chevy clashing gears like a true VT52 does.

    DEC units on ebay

Well, this is what a more complete AF01 *should* look like. Not sure if all the bits are there, this came from a working pdp12 many many years ago. Anyone know if the true module layout is anywhere?

    DEC units on ebay

People are weird. There is an AF01 A/D converter up there for 7500 with almost no boards I have one with the a/d converter board and the 64 channel mux cards.... I'd trade it even up for a BM08. Really could use one of those for the 8/L

    What is this microPDP-11?

Fun to hear all these little bits of information. I remember reading that the 11/70's microcode space was pretty tight, with all that extra memory was any work done in expanding the instruction set or making some of the instructions more efficient? Last CIS type question for the group: I...

    What is this microPDP-11?

The 80 bit number was from the 11/44 CIS manual.
