    Troubleshooting a Socket 7 Motherboard

Back in the day, I always used an isa slot cover to pull chips. Always had one at hand, and the right angle bit makes it easy to get in cramped spots. A 5150 (PC orXT) keyboard is going to be incompatible with anything 286 (AT) or newer.

    Troubleshooting a Socket 7 Motherboard

Misread the jumpers on the first pic. Looks like they're good. Page 7 of the manual (9 of the PDF), JP11 should be set to 5-6, JP12 to 2-3. Later socket 7 cpus jumped all over the place on voltage.

    Troubleshooting a Socket 7 Motherboard

Speaker looks to be wired correctly. If you don't have it, here's the manual-- https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/jetway-j-656vxd#downloads Looks like the voltage selects are set to 3.45 core and 3.52 i/o. Can you get a pic of the CPU without the heatsink?

    Troubleshooting a Socket 7 Motherboard

PC speaker is almost always the outer 2 pins of a 4 pin connector. Polarity shouldn't matter. POST card should give more information, but beep codes would really help. Should be ok-ish for testing, but I'd get a bigger fan for that heatsink. Cyrix tended to run hot.

    Maxtor XT-2190 MFM Help

Have you tried this drive on any other system? I'm wondering if maybe it has a bad head. On one of the screenshots it shows "Installing a 190 megabyte system". Maybe the installer is setup to do a different type of install depending on the available space? A '190 megabyte system' being a full...

    Maxtor XT-2190 MFM Help

Ahh, found it. The drive parameters are stored in /etc/disktab (on 4.2 BSD at least). https://man.openbsd.org/disktab.5 and an example-- http://ftp.jp.freebsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-release-9/src/share/examples/disktab/disktab But it's been forever and a day since I've added a drive to one.

    Maxtor XT-2190 MFM Help

Arrrgh... I _always_ get those backwards. I wonder if it actually uses that for anything. Those screenshots trigger memories of setting up (BSD?) disklabels once upon a time, and If I remember correctly, they're more for documenting the configuration. Same with the "Maker....Maxtor " field. I'd...

    Maxtor XT-2190 MFM Help

The earlier ST412 standard had an 8 head limit. ST506 allowed 16 heads by changing the write-precomp line into another head select. I think the earlier WD1010 only allowed 1024 cylinders, while the 2010 allowed 2048. But you are also limited by what the software will support. On the Tandy 6000...

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

If you don't have an external Toshiba floppy drive plugged into the computer's female DB25 connector the switch should be in the 'PRT' position. If it is set to 'A', the internal drive becomes B:, and unbootable.

I would like to know information about these two cards that I got from ebay.

The io card is a 2 serial, 1 parallel, clock, game port, and floppy adapter, cheaped out by leaving off one of the UARTS and pair of line driver chips. My guess is the 8 bit dip switch has: 2 switches for serial A port address, 1 switch for serial A irq 3/4. 2 switches for serial B port address...

PC Partner lx 55 hdd repair??

If you zoom in on the pic of the hard drive, it looks like the pin got pushed in instead of broken off. You can see the pyramid shape of the end. Might be able to take the board off and push it back into place. Other than that, it looks like a typical ide drive, seagate maybe? Likely candiate...

Video Problems with my TRS-80 4p

I see Rifas! The one halfway down on the right side and the one by the fuse look ok at the moment, but the one by the heatsink looks like it's cracking. Probably not the issue, but I'd replace all the Rifas before they do their thing. And it looks like maybe capacitor goo from the bottom of C18...
