Gridcase 2 - Battery and Ribbon cables

I'm around 95% sure that the battery is *not* rechargeable. But I saw similar batteries that are rechargeable 3.6 NiMH batteries. To be 100% certain, take a DMM or suitable volt meter. With the cover off of the Grid, remove the CMOS battery . Power it on. With the DMM in DC volts mode, measure...

Gridcase 2 - Battery and Ribbon cables

Great job. It looks like you'll be able to solder to the tabs still in the board. Good luck! -Shawn

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

Thank you for the suggestion about the caps. I bought another broken T-3200 from eBay to use it for the floppy drive. I pulled the drive from the broken computer and put it in the target. The floppy drive did not work. I could tell it was trying harder to read the disk before giving up. But it...

Gridcase 2 - Battery and Ribbon cables

I agree with what you're saying (except for the 'fire' statement. These are all low voltage, low current batteries. Assuming the Grid attempts to recharge the battery (which it doesn't), you might get some heat as electrolyte boils off. It's not good for the battery or the computer. But fire...

    Installing MS-DOS on a GRiDCASE 1520

    That's interesting. I think I have 7, 1520 drives. They all are 1.44mb.

Gridcase 2 - Battery and Ribbon cables

Those ribbon cables carry the signals for the rear panel I/O (serial, parallel, external floppy and perhaps video) to and from the motherboard. If by some mistake, you were to sever or cut in to one of them, you would only lose the rear panel I/O connections. The computer should operate just...

    Saving Curves onto a 1520

Sorry, i've been away for the site for a bit. Glad to know you received it and it working. I thought that maybe the software would convert the data to images. I guess it doesn't. Does it even run on a 286? Glad to know things are talking to each other. -Shawn

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

Well, it was a valiant attempt. I think I damaged this beyond repair. I only saw a single 4.7uf cap on the bottom of the FDD. I removed it and replaced the SMD type with a radial leaded cap from a capacitor kit I have. I did a temporary solder job just to see if it would work. I didn't see the...

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

I thought I was on to something. The short version of the story is I found a tantalum capacitor on the motherboard that was shorting the -12V to ground. I replaced the tantalum with an electrolytic. The voltage is now steady at -12V but as before, the floppy drive still does not work properly...

Any1 with GRiDCASE 1520 or 1530 with floppy/hard drive backplane, take pictures of the backplane?

I have a 1520 and can take a picture. But what exactly are you trying to see? Thanks, -Shawn

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

Yeah, my post was a bit misleading. I saw the disk spinning and the LED lighting, and I thought it was working. I made the post, and went to bed. Only to find that the drive wasn't actually reading data from the disk. The Toshiba is still apart and the cable has been reseated several times. No...

    Saving Curves onto a 1520

You'll have to rotate the 2nd one. I'll admit, opening the box was like opening Marcellus' briefcase in Pulp Fiction! :biggrin:A little mystical. :)

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

I unplugged the MFM connector from the Fujitsu hard drive and the power connector to the hard drive. After a minute to 90 seconds, the computer makes 3 long beeps and shows an error on the screen that there's an error reading from the hard drive. Then it says to hit any key to boot. At that...

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

It is a T3200, no additional letters on the front bezel. The model number sticker on the bottom says PA3079U. It has a '286 and I dropped in a '287. Not that I'd actually use the '287 for anything. But it's there...adding just a little bit more load to the power supply. ;) Oh, I did read about...

    Saving Curves onto a 1520

At first, I would have said this was impossible. But, I see the trace on the screen of the Grid. But I do have a question: the sawtooth wave on the screen of the Grid doesn't look like the trace seen on the 222. Are we looking at the same waveforms? Thanks, -Shawn

    GRiDCASE 2 - Dallas Chip

Hello there. I've been away for a while. I on a break from my studies and had a quick window to check in. I hope to be much more active in the summer months. But to answer your question, and assuming you haven't torn in to the Grid already, Grid had two versions of a Real Time Clock. The...

    Toshiba T3200 floppy drive problems

I was too early in my celebration. The hard drive still works. I removed it from the chassis. The floppy drive only spins when the switch is in the 'A' position. I have a two different MS-DOS 3.3 boot disks and a MS-DOS 5.0 boot disk. After attempting to read the disk, I get an error saying it...
