    How about a strobe disc?

Can't figure out 360K floppy drive

You did verify the spindle speed as 300 RPM, correct?

    Are computer museums 'bad'?

It's a lot worse than that--libraries, in particular, have mothballed huge collections of digital media without having preserved the information and are now faced with problems of data recovery, which is a different kettle of fish than conversion. What I find fascinating is that the employee...

After listening to the feedback from my previous post, I made a new design for my 80188 project.

Good luck with your design! The 80186 is a bit of an odd animal. Many think that the 80286 was a later development, but in fact, the two chips were developed by different groups within Intel at the same time. The market for the 80186 was the embedded world, where, in fact, it lived for many...

TI Silent 700 model 703, general questions

...and some DTE won't work unless DCD is also present. I use 4-5 and 6-8-20 on the DTE side. Seems to cover all the bases.

Not me--I try to stay below notice.

    Typewriters that acted as printers

The IBM CADET (1620) Model 1 used an IBM Model B as the console typewriter. This was a traditional type-bar typewriter with movable carriage. Fun to watch while operating--you always wondered when it was going to fall to pieces.

IBM iPoint keyboard--anyone have any ideas?

Take a look at my github posting for the iPoint receiver using a "blue pill" MCU. All of the key codes are included in the source code. https://github.com/Tubatstuff/IBM-IR-PS2-stm32

Resistor pack values for Compaticard IV

With or without the PROM BIOS extension, CC4BIOS.SYS should have provided the functionality.

Looking for details on 3.5 and 5.25 disk drive raw data rates -

Theoretically, there's no reason that a floppy couldn't be fitted with a PRML read channel or that (2,7) RLL encoding couldn't be used. The fundamental issue is that the medium quality is extremely variable across manufacturers. On the other hand, there's no theoretical reason, given a...

Looking for details on 3.5 and 5.25 disk drive raw data rates -

Those values in the table are just standard values for given data rates, modulation, and rotational speed. They don't talk about the real capacity of a drive, no holds barred. Anyone who's written a formatter is very familiar with them--they're needed to calculate inter-sector gaps. Recall...

Resistor pack values for Compaticard IV

A few years ago, one of these depopulated cards crossed my desk and I added the missing components, like you. Never got it to work as a full-featured card--I never figured out why.

    MDA TTL to composite video

Unless you have a very unusual "modern" LCD monitor that can reach down to 18.432Khz horizontal/50Hz vertical, that circuit isn't going to work. It was fairly easy to "tweak" CRT monitors into that range, but probably not LCDs. A scan converter would be the ticket, I think.

Resistor pack values for Compaticard IV

ImageDisk doesn't use the BIOS and lets you specify the port number, though I believe that the IRQ and DMA are fixed at 6 and 2, repsectively.

IBM iPoint keyboard--anyone have any ideas?

There's a photo at the Electronics Goldmine. I've got six of the things, so if that doesn't work for you, I can haul out one of them and take some snaps. IBM Part# 19K1800.

Resistor pack values for Compaticard IV

Try disabling the BIOS on it and see if ImagDisk will run it. There's a possibility that your system's primary controller isn't playing nice with the DMA 2 selection.

Dunno, although it isn't a "Computer Museum", this place really impressed me when I visited.

Seeking Jumper information on Epson Floppy Controller Card

Note that I said "connect the power only; forget about the signal connector. Looking at the edge connector, the top pins are numbered 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16...just the way shown in the diagram from pinouts.ru. The bottom pins are numbered 1,,3,5,7.... So, ground (you can use one of the power...
