    Are computer museums 'bad'?

There is definitely a need for computer museums as they are the keepers of historical artifacts. Without them, a lot of people wouldn't see the more rarer computers and computing artifacts that are just not attainable or even visible in the age we live in. We are in an unusual era where...

    Repair vs Preservation

I have a couple of museum pieces and I'm all for fixing them, if it's a possibility. If you were a museum, that's one thing. It will sit in a storage warehouse and destroy itself over time. With a collector who can do restoration work, I'd rather see something working, if at all possible. As...

The Official Nabu PC Floppy Disk Controller thread

I don't recall if it was @ldkraemer or @Chuck(G) but the 5.25" SSDD config was determined. I tried some of the other configs @ldkraemer came up with but I could not get them to work for other disk types. I have had no issues working with the 5.25" SSDD on 22disk. You can copy files back and...

The Official Nabu PC Floppy Disk Controller thread

Thanks fror the files. I originally created many of these images before I knew the geometry of the drives and my Kryoflux, I think, defaults to 42 or 82 tracks when capturing RAW images. In soe cases, I may have used a 1.2MB drive but I thought I had removed all of those images. I didn't go...

Perhaps slight track misalignment on your floppy drive? John Morris would know. He helped me work through the floppy image issues.

Interesting. Now that you have that, you can always connect the 5.25" and Gotek and make a real diskette via the Nabu from Gotek to floppy drive.

I am guessing the 5.25" image you are using is the same as this one? https://vintagecomputer.ca/files/Nabu/disk_images/NABU_5.25_DSDD_CPM_User_Boot.a2r Any chance you have a Kryoflux? You could also try this one...

    Model 1 #100,000 - Chrome!

Wow, thanks for looking that up @Trash-Eighty . It's never good to hear something like this but that is part of life. My condolensces go out to his family. It's a little unnerving getting something this way but that is a sad reality as fellow collectors. I will put up a page for the...

    Model 1 #100,000 - Chrome!

Thank you @Trash-Eighty. I keep a few auction photos myself for interesting computers so I knew somebody would have them. Well, I did acquire this one. Same scratches, same rusty screw, same line on the corner of the label that looks like it was misprinted. I didn't actually find this...

The a2r should work. I personally use an 8k EPROM and have used that for all of my testing. For me, I could not get the floppy drive to work with the stock EPROM but this was when I was having initial problems with the disk images. Perhaps someone can chime in if they've been able to use the...

What are the top 10 rarest vintage computer bits you own?

I hate to be a killjoy but can you carry on this conversation in an off-topic thread? I enjoy reading what rare computers people have and it would be great to keep this thread on topic. On topic, I should probably update my top 10 list...

The Official Nabu PC Floppy Disk Controller thread

If you have a Kryoflux or Greaseweazle, I would create the disk with a flux imager. You cannot use IMD with the normal images. That said, @brijohn created an IMD image that can be written with ImageDisk. You can find it here: https://vintagecomputer.ca/files/Nabu/disk_images/LEO1_BRI.imd

Sorry to bring back this old thread but did anyone keep the photos from this auction in 2017? I may have acquired this unit and would like to compare.

    Xerox 1810 Sunrise

For the record, mine did the same thing as well. It would raise the read head a couple of times and then lower them. It would do this if the cassette drive was fully working or not so it appears to be normal behavior. As for the cassette popping up, that spring will lift the entire top cover...

    Xerox 1810 Sunrise

@Michele31415, I was able to fix my tape drive. It needed a coupe of drops of oil as there are two spindles that turn, one being the motor. I think you can do this without taking out the tape unit. Be warned, if you do, there is the eject spring you have to deal with. There definitely is a...

    Xerox 1810 Sunrise

On hard or soft booting, my cassette tries to engage. It tries a coupe of times then gives up. I think the drive mech is sticky. I also don't see any activity when trying to fast forward or rewind. I figure there is probably a belt but I have some other issue as well, I think.

Thanks again @Michele31415 I got my Sunrise working. Now to find some software. Looks like @falter has a couple of diskettes. I wonder if he's archived them? I would imagine @falter is following this thread. If not, I will reach out to him. My tape drive is not working. I will take a...
