Western Europe TK25 tape drive. UK only. Free.

It would be a shame to junk the TK25, but I suspect it might be a bit too big for the space I have left in the house! So I think I would prefer if someone else took it, but if you get no takers then perhaps you can tell me how big it is? I don't live too far from the M6 (South Manchester)...

Tracking Down a RAM Issue in a VT100 (how does the 2114 chip work?)

Thank you for the detailed reply. For some reason I didn't get notified of your reply (pretty sure other replies sent me a notification), so I only just noticed this. I think my best bet for checking what is actually being read is to check the schematic for any signal to say that the data being...

Tracking Down a RAM Issue in a VT100 (how does the 2114 chip work?)

Thanks for the datasheet, it is a better quality version of the one I already have. I think I may start by just capturing the writes. If I can see the increasing addresses writing the 0xAA pattern stopping at a particular address I think that may tell me which pair of chips has a bad chip.

Tracking Down a RAM Issue in a VT100 (how does the 2114 chip work?)

Yes the VT100 printset is available so I have the schematic. I did try triggering on the rising edge of CS, but perhaps I just need to trigger on WE too. Not sure my analyser can trigger on the first of those rising, I think it is a simple OR. I will see if I can do that, otherwise I will look...

Tracking Down a RAM Issue in a VT100 (how does the 2114 chip work?)

I have a non-functioning VT100. I think it is failing in the POST during the RAM check. I don't know for sure because I can't get it to light up the LEDs on the keyboard, however I used my logic analyser (a HP1630G) to see what values were written to the UART to send to the keyboard and I see it...

Western Europe DEC parts available, UK

It has indeed been a while. Sounds like the regulators are not for me. I think that others should take priority, but if after all is done and dusted, if you have one or two VT420 logic boards left, a DE422, possibly a VGA card (if it works with Alphas, 433au or the Jensen), then let me know...

Western Europe DEC parts available, UK

I have a couple of VT420s so I guess a couple of spare logic boards might not go amiss in case of failures. I have a PWS433, maybe some of the parts you have might serve as spares there too? Not sure what you have. However, the bit that most interests me is the 9V regulators for the DECservers...

    AlphaStation 250 4/266 SRM Console

Yes, as noted in my last reply, a different combination of serial cables worked for me and I was able to get a console.

    11/73 not powering up

Here is a zip of my schematics done with Eagle.

    11/73 not powering up

I have partial schematics that I have reverse engineered. However, I am not an electronic engineer and so they will not be drawn logically and are highly likely to have mistakes too. But if you are interested I don't mind making them available.

    Replacing a VAXmate Flyback Transformer

I thought I would post again about this on the off chance that maybe someone has a non-working VAXmate with a monitor board. I would really like to get my VAXmate working again one day.

    VAX File System Internals

Thanks. I did look on bitsavers, but obviously not in the right place!

    VAX File System Internals

I thought I had this book but it seems I don't. I would buy a copy but there don't seem to be any available in the UK. Does anyone know if the Files-11 and/or ODS-2 specs (not sure of the difference to be honest) are online anywhere? Thanks

    AlphaStation 250 4/266 SRM Console

Thank you. I tried again with a different combination of serial cables and I was able to see the console output.

    AlphaStation 250 4/266 SRM Console

I recently acquired an AlphaStation 250 4/266. I am trying to get into the SRM console but it is currently set to automatically boot from disk. No matter what I do, while the machine is in text mode I get no console output, I just get a non-blinking cursor at the bottom left of the screen. The...

Repairing the Locking Mechanism in an Epson SD-600 Floppy Disk Drive

I did look at removing the shaft, but it looked like a lot of disassembly. I am wondering if I might be able to use the kevlar binding technique without actually dismantling it, but I will certainly look into this and the plastic bonder too.

Repairing the Locking Mechanism in an Epson SD-600 Floppy Disk Drive

I have an Epson SD-600 5.25" Floppy Disk Drive. The locking lever on the front wouldn't lock and hold in the floppy disk. On inspection I found a plastic cam that holds the drive mechanism in place was cracked and was no longer in the correct position. I have attempted a repair by rotating it...

Formatting non-RX50 diskettes in an RX50 drive

I have some DS/DD floppies, but I wanted to check them for any important contents before trying them on the Rainbow. However, both my "regular" 5.25" PC floppy disk drives are not working and I don't think I have any others, so I may have to try to fix one of these drives first before I will use...

Formatting non-RX50 diskettes in an RX50 drive

I just checked and the disks I have been given are hard-sectored. So I guess the RX50 can't deal with that. The disks are brand new, the box was still sealed.

Formatting non-RX50 diskettes in an RX50 drive

I have been asked to format some floppies on my Rainbow for use in a DECmate II. I have been sent some Verbatim Single-Sided/Quad Density floppies. When I try to format them in MS-DOS 2.11 with I get "Format failure". Not being sure which way to orient the floppy in the drive I have tried it...
