    NeXT 400dpi laser printer restoration

How did you check your lamp? After I couldn't find any clues or proper service documentation on what is wrong on my printer I decided to banish it into the basement and pick it up sometime in the future.

    Retro LAN Party game suggestions

I guess it's fun for a couple hours if you like old school rpgs, but at the time when we started playing it went on deep into the nights... Regarding your windows 10 setup, have you thought about using virtual machines?

    Retro LAN Party game suggestions

Games we played back then... - Counter Strike 1.6 - Half Life death match - Diablo (II) - some variants of Micro Machines - some variants of Worms - Dota (the WC3 map) - Garry's Mod ... No idea how any of this runs on modern systems

Value of brand new, unopened Commodore PET 2001-8N found in basement

I've seen a few PETs but never an unopened one with all its original papers, so it would be very interesting to see the contents documented and how it survived untouched. Keep us posted about all the treasures you unearth

    RIFA caps in Tektronix 4404

What did you try to measure exactly? The uncracked RIFAs should still be within spec... The electrolytics, if they're fine I would keep them. I only change them if they're out of spec, physically broken/leaking or it's a series known for failing.

Behold: The Greasebox! (self-contained Greaseweazle drive enclosure)

Very cool, I plan to do a similar thing but haven't found the matching enclosure yet. I'll probably go for one of those full height tape drive boxes and use two separate drives because I don't any good luck with those combo drives.

A pair of Pets - Preparing to test after perhaps 40 years unused

Yeah, those must go, they can pop similar to old RIFA caps. If you must replace it I don't know, I guess it depends on the circumstances. I do it because I like having a bit of filtering and noise suppression on those old machines. When I replace them I pick one that fits physically and has...

A pair of Pets - Preparing to test after perhaps 40 years unused

Can you post the tube? Does it have wires sticking out? If so it might be one of those filters that like to explode and you're better off cutting it out. Long term I replace it with new filters even though many say it's unnecessary. The 8x50 line of drives were pretty high end and a 1541 is...

A pair of Pets - Preparing to test after perhaps 40 years unused

Very cool.. especially the 8250 drive. What I did on mine before powering it up: - Check for cracked RIFAs and other suspicious filters that can explode (on mine it was under the metal cage holding the transformer) - Reform the big smoothing capacitors (one per computer and two per disk drive)...

    RIFA caps in Tektronix 4404

There is nothing wrong with new ones that are currently in production, I use them from time to time. The problem is that the 30+ year old ones suffer from the cracking plastic case due to shrinkage of the material (moisture ingress makes them heat up and explode) which is why even new old stock...

    RIFA caps in Tektronix 4404

Best I can find is the RIFA PMR209 series (those type of capacitors are often listed as RC filters): https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/KEMET/PMR209ME6470M033R30?qs=ffqAhwBssBtwlMDP4nDcIA%3D%3D https://eu.mouser.com/datasheet/2/447/KEM_F3025_PMR209-3317003.pdf If it is a suitable...

    Microtech R45 Cartridge System

Oh, good find... I'll keep it in the back of my mind. It would be interesting to see how it interacts with the software associated with it. My guess is it enables hot swapping the cartridges, similar to the ZIP disk drivers?

    Microtech R45 Cartridge System

Hello While thrifting, I found a box of floppies. One contained Macintosh software for a Microtech International cartridge drive. The only information I could find was this listing: https://www.shopping.ebay.com/item.html?offer=true&id=v1-266449308269-0&provider=0 What the heck is R45...

    Micropolis 1325 - Address mismatch

GW can do a lot for something so low cost. Best to use a GUI if you don't do batch processing, it helps exploring many of the available options .. I'm using this one: https://github.com/FrankieTheFluff/FluxMyFluffyFloppy If it's not a run of the mill data format you need to add your own entry to...

Miniscribe 8425 Activity light error code 0001 ROM Checksum

Oof, that looks a bit involved. I don't have any GALs nor have I ever programmed one. I'm interested in doing it, but it will be on the backburner for a while, there are too many loose ends right now...

Miniscribe 8425 Activity light error code 0001 ROM Checksum

Ask and the pile of broken drives that I keep hoarding for some reason shall provide... here the broken 3650 brick which doesn't clear write fault, PCB attached... SC85345P 010800023 EDIT: Schematics attached (3650 at the very end)... so what would I need exactly? The same part (SC85298P) or...

    Vintage Computer Tools

I took the "parts scope" which turned out to be the one that's working well and is in much better condition: On mine, Vg is 380-420mV DC on both channels (the difference being the square wave), otherwise similar to yours Hitting these parts with freeze spray only caused them to shift for a...
