    OS/8 running on a PDP-8/L with 8KW memory and a non-standard mass storage device.

Since it's only a DTXA rather than a DTCA DTXA, it will XOR the GO bit with 1, which was presumably set already, thus clearing it and only it. Without looking at it further, I'm not sure why they don't just clear all of register A if they want to stop it and return.

    OS/8 questions

If you get SerialDisk running on your system, you can watch all of the transactions taking place in real time on the server side. I don't have a running system in front of me to show that at the moment, unfortunately.

    Yeah, that's the one!

    Me and my pdp-8/L

You may want to confirm that the 74LS family is acceptable for replacing all of the dead 74 family chips you find. My recollection is that there are some cases where only a plain 7474, for instance, will work. Factors include switching speed and the actual internal circuit of the flip-flop, in...

Definitely not shooting anyone here; I was referencing this: https://github.com/emacs-evil/evil I'm sure I'd get used to TECO and emacs if I forced myself to learn them, but in the meantime, I just force myself to use EDIT under OS/8. It's pretty bad, but not awful. I do wish it didn't have...

I'm not aware of many vi users willing to use emacs, but I'm at least aware of some "evil" emacs users who prefer vi key bindings. :)

I don't think so, but that wasn't the intent. Vince has already started the process of cataloging software in this way, but not using a PDP-8 to do so. No, as we have discussed, the handlers are not educated enough to handle errors. I would think an improvement could be made with the DECtape...

Well, sure enough! Good to know this idea has more than just merit!

That was in my original list, and I'm a strong supporter of it. My idea would be an intelligent PLL (so probably a simple microcontroller) that looks at the incoming pattern and detects if it's a 12 or 16 sector pack. If it's a 16 sector, it passes the original hard sector and index pulses...

I feel like since many of the controllers, and other cards for that matter, require multiple cards anyways to operate, like the CPU, EAE, RK8E, etc., it would be most beneficial to have the over-the-top ribbon cables that Jack has made before and simply use an extender board with a set of those...

    PDP-11/34 restoration

This is my favored approach as well if I know the chip is dead. I also like a good vacuum desoldering station if I'm trying to preserve the chip. I find wick to be very finicky, and as you point out, you certainly risk damaging the pads. Nice work!

Good finds. I am particularly fond of as-authentic-as-possible for HDL simulations, particularly when it comes to timing. My 8/I implementation is not currently passing diagnostics after upgrading my version of Verilator, so that's interesting. I'm still looking into that, but would like to...

I never understood why they had dedicated IOTs for every CDF and CIF, 0 through 7. Seems like a waste. Why couldn't they have read AC and used its value to set the bits? Top half could be used for IF and bottom could be DF to accommodate a 6-bit EA, and use a single CDIF instruction, even. CDF...

I agree, an Omnibone would be a very useful device. There are many design philosophies for vintage computing, and I tend to personally err on the side of not putting a microprocessor in the backplane. Others don't mind CPLDs and FPGAs, and some make the distinction between the two. Others want...

I have been discussing many projects with various people lately, and thought it would be a good idea to get these out to everyone to "vote" on them and express interest to help myself and others prioritize. I will also touch on projects already completed by others for added visibility. Without...

    RK05 disk emulator

George, how goes the project? I am certainly interested in one and will gladly be a beta tester. I've done quite a bit with Xilinx, though I've been looking at giving Lattice a try. Let me know if I can be of any assistance as a tester, please. I've got an RK8-E passing diskless diagnostics...
