SCSI Disk images for MicroVAX 2000

Why not get an MFM emulator , like the one from PDP8 on-line? Then you can use the normal VMS install CD or network boot? If you do decide to continue with SCSI I believe you will need new boot ROMS and perhaps a patched VMS.

Obnoxious eBay "please use our app!" popover

I don't use them. A quick test on vinted.com gave me one easily closed small pop-up suggesting try the app. .. but I don't seem to get nagged on ebay.co.uk either...

Keyboards really are terrible today, I think.

I think the only people making clicky keyboards are Unicomp. https://www.pckeyboard.com/page/SFNT but I assume you think $100 or more isn't reasonable. I like the keyboards on my IBM T-series laptops, but the travel is short...

Video Convertor for DB9 Analog RGB to ?

I would still look for a used EXTRON HDMI converter. The thing is so versatile.

Video Convertor for DB9 Analog RGB to ?

Well you could look for a replacement Sony Monitor but they are getting expensive. e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256355888833 or a converter. I rate the Extron DSC 301 HD like this :- https://www.ebay.com/itm/226068914866 It will convert most things to HDMI and has a lot of adjustments. The...

    End of OpenVMS Community License

I think that whilst the DEC Hobbyist program existed, most ordered a licence. Now we have three options, buy a re-cycled licence, which is pure exploitation as most Vaxen in private hands would have had legitimate licences, run on an expired hobbyist licence on an old date or use PakGen. I...

Possible to Convert Model M Terminal KB to DIN or PS/2

Does it have the model M socketed lead? If so can probably just swap the lead, although early PC3270s had a separate card for the keyboard. This for the infoWindows terminals which are quite late so perhaps PC/AT?

Atari SF354 with weird PSU connector.

Looks very odd. I suspect some one swapped it because they couldn't get a cable socket, or already had a matching. I might have a plug looks like a 7-pin 270 degree din. There are a couple on E-Bay UK. e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172121069801 but I'll check the loft later

Obnoxious eBay "please use our app!" popover

In the UK we have several competitors to E-Bay. For commercial sales, which I think are probably where E-Bay makes its money, there is Amazon Market Place, then we have Vinted - https://www.vinted.com/ intended for second hand goods, so the sort of thing we sell on E-Bay and "Etsy" which is...

Obnoxious eBay "please use our app!" popover

Yes but if every one else has this info via their apps E-Bay needs it to keep the playing field level.

Obnoxious eBay "please use our app!" popover

Because they think they can make even more money by getting to have an app. Remember that we on here are odd-balls. If can get some one to install your app on their phone they will carry you around in their pockets, you are always with them so you can send them alerts till the cows come home...

    Unknown IBM 5150 Card

No FCC sticker on the back? What is the type number of U2? Almost certainly not serial, nothing that would do RS232 or Current Loop on the board.

Why did the Intel 4004 implement subtraction this way?

Almost certainly because there wasn't room in the silicon for anything else. I think this is the same reason integers are stored the way they are on the 8080. Lots of info on the 4004 here:- https://www.4004.com/mcs4-masks-schematics-sim.html

Which Was Better: Punch Cards, Paper Tape, or Audio Tapes?

Perhaps on systems with dedicated tape like the , but for example on SWTPC systems we just used the same format. So the same S9 format data went to both paper tape or cassette.

Which Was Better: Punch Cards, Paper Tape, or Audio Tapes?

If you had an ASR33 Teletype you could copy from tape to paper tape without even having a computer. However both paper tape and audio cassette tape are both just byte streams. Typically the computer can't tell the difference. So you can easily convert between the two. If you had an ASR33 the...
