When you replace a tension band, don't leave any slack in the tape, make sure the tape turns freely, and do a drive retension to repack the tape before you try reading it.

The tape is stuck to the steel pins. You need to bake the tapes, and add something on the pins to keep it from sticking. I use a small strip of thin lint free cloth glued together to form a bearing around the pin. I only do this to a few baseplates, then swap reels when doing multiple tapes.

    End of the Z80?

Perfectly logical thing to do given how many older tech fabs they're bringing up. I'm waiting for one of them to start building 5v tolerant FPGAs again.

    End of the Z80?

TubeTimeUS has been saying for a while now that whole product lines are being slashed by MBA driven companies like TI. Eventually Rochester Electronics will become the most profitable US semiconductor manufacturer. They buy mask rights and old fabs and charge what the market will bear for old...

Anyone who has built up a microchannel system with sound, compact flash, ethernet, etc., was it worth it?

Tell me about it. You didn't spend years getting Apple to release the Lisa source code, and AFAIK nothing has been done with it. I'm messing with a model 77 right now to host a Crossbow RT/PC card. Still need to find the Ungermann-Bass MC-EN card it requires.

What was the first computer scanner marketed for personal use?

DEST PC Scan , ca 1987. It was one of the first non-toy ie. "thunderscan" scanners with software for the Mac. Sheet feed letter size monochrome probably based on a fax ccd scanner. There were flatbeds before that, like the Datacopy, which was a spinout from Xerox, but they were expensive...

    Looking for Windows 3.0 DDK

betawiki: Oh yes, we're a private repository and only the leet may apply. bitsavers: It's all there, deliberately rsync-able. Take everything, even give it to the Internet Archive so they can mangle the file names and directory heirarchy. I heard yesterday that Brewster had never heard of...

California PDP10/KL10 system, not turned on, no disc drives

The cluster controller for the KL (CI-20) talks to an HSC-50 with special software to support 576 byte blocks There were no cluster disks on the system, just RP05s Memory is vague, but they may have moved them onto the VAX that replaced it.
