Gateway P5-133XL on a modern DisplayPort/HDMI monitor without using VGA convertor - is it possible?

.. And? There are dozens and dozens of other DOS resolutions besides that that modern monitors don't support. I don't know of any that support 320x200.

Gateway P5-133XL on a modern DisplayPort/HDMI monitor without using VGA convertor - is it possible?

That's not going to fix his problem. No gender changer or different video port is going to solve the problem he has. His modern monitor simply does not support the old CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA resolutions that his legacy machine runs. This is why the monitor can sync when Windows is loaded, because it...

    Sanyo MBC-775 Diode Identification

Is the transformer a regular mains transformer, or is it a SMPS design? You can probably get away with a normal diode if it's just a linear supply, but if it's a SMPS design, you'll need something like a Schottky barrier diode. But the question is why did the diodes fail? It's entirely possible...

    Sanyo MBC-775 Diode Identification

It looks like a SOD-57 or SOD-64 package diode, which doesn't narrow it down much. It's probably not a TVS diode, since those are usually labeled as such on the PCB, so it could be a standard recovery diode or fast recovery diode/avalanche diode. The 4J and 4K markings most likely denote the...

    Core2Duo vs. Pentium D?

Low noise does not mean low static pressure, it just means the geometry of the blades are changed to reduce noise. Scimitar shaped blades make less noise than straight blades. What makes low static pressure is not having a duct to contain the pressure and letting it blow out the sides. Any...

DRM gets in the way of even the IP holders of the games. There have been multiple re-releases of old DRM games where the IP holder used community made cracks to make the games work, because they lost the source to the game and/or couldn't remove the original DRM.

    Core2Duo vs. Pentium D?

Intel has never made a good cooler, the one you pictured included. You may as well remove the fan entirely because without a duct, that fan has basically zero static pressure and will barely move air through the fin stack. The fan may as well be attached to a brick wall, it doesn't have enough...

    Pentium 4

If you want to run any homebrew or do weird experiments like running full installs of Windows, you need the extra memory. Regular Xbox games won't make use of the extra memory at all. It is possible to run Windows 98 on an Xbox, and it has been done before. There is another more complex mod...

    Pentium 4

Re-read my post carefully. Depreciated != Discontinued. The 915 and 925 chipsets were the last Intel chipsets to have Windows 98 support. This was in reference to your original post stating that all Pentium 4 systems support Windows 98, which is false. You're forgetting the disk controller...

Mac LC-II: sound only without PRAM after power on

You may have to take the logic board back out and give it a good wash in the sink and scrub around the chips with a tooth brush and soap. Rinse and dry the board, then follow up with Lectra Clean electrical parts cleaner and hose the entire board down. and let it drip dry. I suspect there's...

Gotta love that near invisible capacitor electrolyte that's conductive just enough to cause problems.

    Pentium 4

Nope. Intel depreciated Windows 98 support on the 915 and 925 chipsets and discontinued support entirely on the 94x chipsets. 3rd party chipsets continued support for a bit longer, but they generally weren't stable, or didn't support all system peripherals on Windows 9x. AMD motherboards were...

    Toshiba libretto 30

The master boot record could be getting clobbered. You could try running "fdisk /mbr" and see if that fixes the no boot problem. Those IDE to SD adapters are hit and miss as well, many of them don't work right on older computers. They'll show up, but partitions never work right.

I don't remember if there were any on the display or not, but they need to go as soon as possible. It's not a matter *if* they will leak, it's *when* they will leak. The electrolyte is extremely corrosive and can do lots of damage.

Cerrobend and Chip-Quik aren't the same. Cerrobend has cadmium in it, while CQ doesn't, it uses bismuth and some other things.

Maximum Memory Supported by 80386 Motherboard

For large ground planes, you gotta preheat the board. In a pinch you can use a hot air gun, but a temperature controlled hot air station is much preferred to not turn it into a charcoal briquette. Double ironing is another trick to get extra heat into stubborn pins, along with some low melt...

    Pentium 4

If you're referencing the hardware from the user you quoted, no, there isn't. Most of the mainstream modern Linux distributions have long since dropped support for x86 and only support x86_64. While there are still 32 bit packages, there is no 32 bit kernel. You can of course compile one...

Failed electrolytic capacitors can have numerous different failures, here are a few: - Short Circuit - Open Circuit - Out of spec capacitance (too low or too high) - High ESR - Turning into a resistor - Electrically leaky, passing DC instead of blocking it You need to replace all of the...
