other than the RIFAs in the power supply 11/83s are generally pretty easy to work with, there aren't many "gotchas" that i can think of right off the top of my head

hey all! i recently picked up a spare VT103 backplane on ebay thinking since they (VT103s) are quite rare, it might be possible to retrofit it into my VT100- as far as i know they are the exact same physical dimensions and all, just the power supply is beefier and there is an LSI11 backplane...

i believe the ii and iii are fairly similar underneath, and on my decmate ii if i don't have a valid boot floppy inserted i get a flashing floppy disk image on the display. the cable probably doesn't have the same pinout you need, and you'll also need somewhere to hook up an lk201 or lk201emu...

correct, but i think that at least one of the configurations i've tried should have worked. someone on an SGI forum also did report getting this working with another machine, though i don't recall which and would have to hunt for a link. unless the cable is just bad?
