Keyboards really are terrible today, I think.

Define "reasonably priced".... :P I love my Model M. And I don't think you will ever find a new 1:1 replacement. At least I never did. I did find the Corsair K95 with BROWN switches. Its much quieter than the M, but feels about right. Yea, I'm not a fan of the RGB, but you can easily...

Looking for manual for RCA data terminal VP3501

My usual attempts to find documents have failed, so I fingered I'd ask the wise gurus here. :) Its a really clean RCA Videotek data terminal VP3501 I had a peek inside to get a handle on what I was dealing with. Make sure nothing was leaking, or anything had let the magic smoke out. I...

    Sometimes you never know...

I've used a Supermicro motherboard for years. it would NEVER complete a warm-reset from Windows. You had to pull the power to reboot. Made windows updates an utter nightmare. retired the system to the garage a few months ago. Works fine. I eventually fingered out, it was because of the...

You know what seems to be extra rare? Pentium II and III Xeons.

I have one of their earliest boards, a socket 5 VIP board. I also recently upgraded my garage PC to this xeon board: https://www.ebay.com/itm/305232515563 95% of what they do is whole-server racks. but they also still make the standard E-ATX boards at a bit of a premium. Now TYAN was big...

You know what seems to be extra rare? Pentium II and III Xeons.

i have the processors (4x 900/2m) and ram (16gb). I thought I had a case for the big bastard, but i dont. I do have a ePay saved search, and occasionally I see some candidates

You know what seems to be extra rare? Pentium II and III Xeons.

Not to change the subject, but the cost of p-pro overdrives is nucking futs. I still need to get two more for my system, and at epay prices, i'll need to win the lotto to get them.

You know what seems to be extra rare? Pentium II and III Xeons.

true, but the 8-way slot-2 xeon is a supported config. the ppro 6x6 was not supposed to work afaik. as i recall, it was supposed to cap out at quad processors. the fact ALR dropped the mic on everyone and made a 6-way that worked with the overdrives... nothing short of awesome. I really...

the fact he is selling the REQUIRED memory board separate pisses me off to no end. To say nothing of the silly price.

You know what seems to be extra rare? Pentium II and III Xeons.

If you want a slot2 xeon, the only practical way tog et one is so hunt down a full rack server. not unlike how Victor Bart did very recently. and you will quickly find out, it is not designed for first-time users. they are very picky about hardware.

You know what seems to be extra rare? Pentium II and III Xeons.

well, every decade or so, the ASUS XG-DLS ( https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/asus-xg-dls ) will pop up on ebay. its practically the only dual slot-2, non-oem, ATX board that I know of. If one does pops up on ebay, make sure the cpu brackets are included. they are unique to the...

    Temu?

oh yea, all kinds. Nothing too specific, just the jelly-bean parts. Everything i've gotten has been within spec, at least as far as I can test them. Most of the parts I get are for troubleshooting and repairs. Replacement USB sockets, switches, etc. I tested a few the 2N2222's I got and all...

    Temu?

There is a MASSIVE amount of scam items on the site. They sell flashlights that output 10,000 lumens, as an example. which is obviously impossible. But with a bit of scrutiny, its pretty easy to avoid the worst of the scam items. All that said, i've probably spent about $500 on the site. I...

    What computer bus is this?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/386124874883 Ok, i've been around long enough, to know all the major ones. And this card has been keeping me up at night. I know its not VLB (Very Long Bus), but it looks like whoever made the card and subsequent motherboard, didnt have any of the typical pci card...

Recommendation for an (OLDER) server motherboard

This is personally what I am running with freenas right now. in a slightly smaller version of this chassis: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/lian-li-mini-itx-nas-pc-q26,27950.html The whole setup is practically silent. the motherboard -...
