Hi,

I guess the vintageness of this request is borderline, but it involves obsolete gameport technology so I think it's OK.

I am looking for an adapter which will allow me to use my old flightsticks with 15 pin connectors on my laptop, which of course only has USB ports. I am offering $10 plus shipping. I have paypal cash at the ready.

Thanks,

Chris

These are readily available in England (although probably a bit more than $10) - I have one. It's branded "Rockfire" so maybe a search for this will turn something up? I'm not familiar with US electronics outlets sorry.

Shipping would be a bit expensive from here but as a reference you can find them at http://www.maplin.co.uk.

Mine has four modes including CH Flightstick PRO.

Yeah I don't know what the deal with that is but on eBay the selection from Great Britain is way better than what we have here in the states. I want one, but I'm not paying $26 shipped for one. I'll find one sooner or later. I'm not in a huge hurry. I just got Falcon 4.0 and I want to play it with one of my old CH Products sticks. The only option I have right now is a Dual Shock pad through a USB adapter, and that's no way to play a flight sim.

I can't get on with those game pads either. I'm ambidextrous for most things but have always used my right hand for a joystick, whereas ALL game pads I've seen have left-handed direction controls. Why, I don't know. Plus a stick is easier to control than 4 buttons or a tiny mushroom-shaped knob anyway.

Any luck?

Nope. They looked the item numbers up in the computer and there were none in the entire district.

Now I need one even more. I just bought a desktop computer to hook up to my big trinitron monitor, but it only has USB ports (and doesn't have any expansion ports). Playing a flight sim on a 24-inch monitor would be a lot of fun.

Online:

pccables.com

eBay ID sbirley88 - HK, but like $13 shipped

SewellDirect.com - pricey at $22, though

I see your point, though.
In just a few months, they have literally vanished off the market!

Me personally, I got my two because I sort of suspected that, and I have a few josticks I absolutely love, like the Gravis Phoenix FCS, couple of those handheld wheels (forgot the maker) and 1-2 Saitek sticks I love, and a Logitech CyberMan2 as well.

Take a peek around your local Circuit City stores and see if they might have one. They're at 25% off now in their liquidation (yeah, right, liquidation) so it might be reasonable to get one there, if they have any.

For those wanting to use their old Microsoft Sidewinder joysticks in digital mode (not normal analog mode but using Microsoft's special digital mode through the game port), check out Grendel's 3DP-Vert USB joystick adapter at:

http://grendel.koolbear.com/3dpro.htm

But, at the time of my post, the koolbear.com domain is down, so if that link doesn't work, check out the http://archive.org version at:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080119023518/http://grendel.koolbear.com/3dpro.htm

The project started on the Descent BB forums in the following two postings:

http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?t=7090 (all the technical details)

and here:
http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?t=12217 (there was an attempt to make a group buy - but it fell apart due to lack of time)

This is a DIY project, but it works very well. This _will_not_ work with a regular analog joystick which the poster of this thread originally asked about. It's a project that started out of the Descent Community because the original MS Sidewinder 3D Pro was so popular with Descent gamers. The forum posts above are long, so look for details about the second version, which is easier and cheaper to make and offers support for more than just the 3Dpro stick.

I am trying to use old CH Products flightsticks, so I don't know that that would work with that DIY deal. I should just buy a new joystick but I like my oldies.

The search continues...
