I have a 1975 SWTPC 6800 computer for sale.

LOCAL PICKUP - Due to the troubles with shipping CRT tubes, and fragile electronic devices, I will need the purchaser to pick this up near Greensburg, PA (about an hour East-Southeast of Pittsburgh.)

There is also a non-working SWTPC CT-82 CRT monitor included. The outer case of the terminal looks pretty good, but will need some retro-cleaning. More importantly, I tried to test it out. It powered up, and I could hear the fan spinning up. But after a short while, there was a bright flash, a loud bang and a lot of smoke; yep, I let the magic smoke out.
:(
This is why I normally let the purchaser do the testing.

The computer will remain untested until the buyer receives it. It looks very nice, and inside looks complete. I removed all the cards a couple of years ago so that they could survive a move to our new home. Each card is inside an anti-static bag, and wrapped in bubble wrap, and they are all placed inside the case.

The following cards are included:
  • MP-F Chassis & MP-P Power Supply
  • MP-B Motherboard
  • MP-C Serial Control Interface
  • MP-M #1 4K Memory Board
  • MP-M #2 4K Memory Board
  • Tanner Computer 64K SS-50 (w/ 22 RAM chips)
  • MP-L Parallel Interface Board, No Photo
  • Southeastern Micro Systems DDC-16
  • MP-S Serial Interface (w/ DB25 connector - needs two wires resoldered)
  • MP-A Microprocessor / System Board
  • MP-A2 #1 Microprocessor / System Board (does have the SWTBUG ROM and 6810 RAM, no other EPROM)
  • MP-A2 #2 Microprocessor / System Board (missing baud rate generator, 6810 RAM and SWTBUG ROM – but does have a 2716 EPROM, configuration switches replaced with jumper wires
For some reason, both of the MP-A2 boards have had the copper traces of the "MP-A2" title in the upper-right corner, and the SWTPC logo right side, just above the DS8835N bus transceivers ground off.

Included is a binder with all the assembly notes, along with many handwritten notes from the person who assembled the system. I also have another box with much more documentation that I will be dragging out in the next day or two - all of the SWTPC docs in that box are included.

I asked for $750, but I saw one on e-Bay for $1500. I would like to get a good price for this, but would rather have it go to someone who would appreciate it for the history that it represents. Please correct me if this price is badly off (high, or low.) This is one of the three computers that came out the same year that I got into computing, but it is time for me to clear out some of my treasures to make way for my newer projects.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your asking price.

I would be interested - but I am in the UK and shipping would be risky and prohibitively expensive.

Local Pickup Only significantly limits your audience!
Consider donating it to the LSSM and taking a tax deduction.
You do know about the LSSM in New Kensington ...
Yeah, Local Pickup does, and I could probably ship it - I just need to find a big enough box. But the main reason that I didn't want to ship it is because of the CRT in the CT-82, although, as I mentioned, the terminal lost its magic smoke, so maybe that's not important. Is anyone interested in purchasing this if I can ship (I would guess that shipping price is pretty high)?

As far as the LSSM goes, yes, I have been there (only about an hour north of me.) I've been meaning to go back, but just haven't yet.

BTW, the Solar System is located in the Orion-Cygnus Arm (or simply the Orion Arm or Local Arm) of our galaxy (the Milky Way).
There is no Andromeda Arm: https://science.nasa.gov/resource/the-milky-way-galaxy/
So Local Pickup Only is going to be *severely* limiting as you're probably located in some other dimension than most participants here :-}.
LOL, that's pretty good. I had never seen anything from NASA about that - I just saw somewhere that Sol was in the Milky Way's spiral arm nearest the Andromeda Galaxy, and must have thought that they called it the Andromeda Arm.

Thanks for the reference - unless of course you are in the other dimension from me. ;)

Okay, someone got me to agree to ship the computer. Unfortunately he needed it shipped overseas to Paris. That is until I gave him the shipping estimate - have you heard of "a silly amount of money"?

Any way, the computer is now packed up and ready to ship. There will also be a box of books, that would be optional, but would cost extra for shipping. The computer box measures 25" X 25" X 14", and it weighs 24 Lbs. It will be shipped via USPS, from Adamsburg, PA 15611, and I am willing to ship it within the continental United States - sorry, but getting the price for shipping to Paris made my eyes water, not interested in dealing with that kind of money for shipping.

I would still like to get the $750, plus shipping, for it.

Reminds me of when I bought an Olivetti M20 a year or two ago and had it shipped from France to the USA. Shipping was a silly amount of money (almost EU 300, if I recall correctly), probably an even sillier amount now. But I really wanted it :)

To clarify, what you have boxed up now is just the computer, not the terminal? I don't even know why I'm thinking about it, and it's probably time for me to stop thinking about it...

Yes, only the silly amount was more like $1400 - $2000, depending on the carrier.

Yes, the computer is packed and ready to go. The terminal is not, and I'm not even sure how to pack it up - I don't really have much in the way of packing material, and don't have a box big enough for it. The books are still packed in some boxes from a previous move of home - they would need to be hunted down, removed from those boxes and packed separately.

I can relate to your desire for more info (can't really afford much myself,) and for those who are interested, I present the above info.
