Apple scanner repair

I just acquired an Apple Scanner and an Apple Scanner One,
I believe one is B&W and one color.

After replacing the cracked gears, the color unit comes on, the carriage moves to home and the scanner bulb lights then goes off.
Same on the B&W scanner except the light never comes on, I replaced the bulb and checked all the fuses.

Sort of stumped.

Is it waiting for a command to scan something?

If it uses a fluorescent bulb then you might have a problem with any number of circuit elements related to driving them, including the usual inverter.

I know the ceiling fixtures sometimes have removable ballast, starter components. Not sure if those are distinct parts in a scanner assembly.

I'm trying to remember if it was the IBM page scanner or the Apple One scanners where it doesn't run the lamp all the time but keeps the filaments warm.
