This laptop came my way and I'm absolutely on the fence if it's worth fighting the chaos it's been giving me.

I got it with the bag, AC adapter and the unit itself with a 20mb hard drive and reeking of moldy basement.
Cleaned up fine, then decided the top half of the screen wanted the 4th column in every text cell to be dead. Turned out to be a broken wire in the display ribbon.
As I was cleaning that up the hinge clutch broke in two separate places. I'm hoping JB weld will clean some of that up but ugh, Bondwell was bad for their plastics.
Anyways, it started fine, the backlight...works...The Miniscribe even spun up and booted......for a whole 10 minutes until I parked it like previous owner didn't do and it turns out that was a rough patch on platter surface 1 and crashed it........
I have not tried the floppy drive yet because it absolutely needs a cleaning but with the unit apart it's otherwise clean in here with no FPU or ROM expansion. Just wants a new fan and a 12v battery and I'm sure it would work but...is it really worth it given how this thing has fought me at every step to not break itself again?

Nope. Stupid thermoplastics.
Overall the laptop is "fine", but there's no way to repair the cracked sleeve for the hinge, so it's doomed to live a life of flopping over.

Pardon the pun in advance ... so the "Bondwell" didn't bond well  Weird how aged plastics vary from really fragile to bulletproof. I must profess to chucking a Toshiba T3200 as it disintegrated faster that I could glue it back together. On the other hand I have an HP Portable 110 and the plastic is a supple as the day it was manufactured.....

I guess you answered your own question though!

It's one of those parts where "3D printing might fix it" but seemingly finding people who know how to print AND do more than download off thingiverse is weirdly an effort on its own. Hell, even casting it out of zinc would work.
