I Would Like To Know What To Turn On First;

1) The Disk Drive With The Disk Already In It And Then The Computer,

2) The Computer First, Then The Disk Drive With The Disk Already In It,

3) The Computer, The Disk Drive, Then Put The Disk In And Start Loading?

Which Do You Suggest For The Proper Way To Use The Machine To Prolong Its Life?

Good Question, I really dont know, but considering the problem with microcircuitry being sensitive to power ons, I would suggest turning the disk drive on, insert the floppy, and then turn the computer on.

Yes, the manual tells you to power on the computer as the last part of the chain. The computer will also issue a reset command on the serial bus, so the drive will be initialized just like it already has been when it was powered on. Whether you have a disk in the drive or not shouldn't matter, unless you have a C128 w/ 1571 or better and are planning to autoboot it.

Apparently the VIC-20 w/ 1540 also has some autobooting property, but it was removed (?) in the 1541.
