Again, though, the COASt modules, if I read correctly, only ever went up to 512KB, so if I want the maximum cache, I need to go with the DIP sockets anyway.
It does kinda look that way in the photo, but it's actually soldered directly to the board; it's a 74something logic IC. The tag chip is the socket between the CPU and the ISA slots.
I suspect that a lot of those are around, masquerading as misshapen DIMM RAM. I've certainly got one in my own hellbox--don't know what I'm going to do with it, as I don't have any systems that it fits.
