Can I get away with using old versions of Rufus (or similar) to make a Linux boot USB?

Hi guys,

I was thinking about going back to using USB flash drives to make Linux boot media, rather than blank DVDs. However, the last Windows I still use and have available is Windows XP. Any advice?

I would use the USB maker software for the latest Linux distros coming out, such as Lubuntu 22.04 LTS, which came out a few days ago.

Rufus is a general USB boot disc maker, good for Windows or Linux. On the other hand, Universal USB Installer is more Linux-centric. (Correct me if i'm wrong) Don't the recent Linux distros require updated versions?
