. Tom is a great engineer and a great story teller - long interview, but it all sparkles with info and his good humor. He started a Lincoln Labs with Wes Clark where he worked on early mag tape systems before moving on to DEC.

Worth listening too - and don't forget you can turn up the playback speed on YouTube :>)
 
When I was at DEC back in the early 80s I had the good fortune to take a business trip out to Albuquerque NM where Tom was then running the Advanced Terminal Development group. We talked about the high resolution CRT display projects he was working on (full page megapixel displays) that we were interested in. Quite a character he was. After that stop, our next destination was to Stanford to meet with a professor Forrest Baskett and a grad student of his named Andreas Bechtosheim working on a project they called the SUN terminal. Geez whatever happened to that, let me think ...
