Cleaning RK05 (2315-style) disk packs

Having personally used the briefcase model, mostly on RK06/7 disk packs, I wonder if the one time use foam wipers and cleaning solution are available.

Rubbing alcohol would probably be fine and you could fit appropriate foam to the arms, just has to be compatible with the solution and not easily disintegrate.

What was nice about these units was the bright inspection lamp and angled mirror arms that allowed a quick and complete visual inspection for physical surface defects.

I'm sure you can manage with some commercial solution from Alpha or such. I need to get more wipers, the textured paint in the pack wells on RL drives is really not OK to clean with Kimwipes!

Speaking of Texwipe, back when I had a student job as a computer operator at UCI back around 1990, we used Texwipe brand wipes for cleaning heads on the magtape drives. I seem to recall that they were a woven cloth, but I might misremember that. I don't remember whether they were pre-moistened or not. I don't remember which specific Texwipe product we used. If anybody remember which Texwipe products were commonly used for purposes like that back then, my memory would appreciate a nudge.

I don't think we had any removable pack drives in the room by then. If we did, I wasn't aware of it and I don't think I ever saw a loose pack sitting around. I only handled 9 track tapes, 8mm Exabyte cartridges, and the occasional QIC 150 cartridge in that machine room.

When I was a student operator at Rose from 1979-1982 we used TEXPADS then, also on our TU78's and TU77's. I chuckled when I saw the pictures on that listing. Memories...

I think they were a thicker woven paper/fiber rather than cloth. At least the ones we had were. They came pre-moistened in the packets.

I wonder if TEXPADS are what I used a decade later? I wish my memory was better.

Edit: The photo doesn't trigger my memory, but I wonder if this is what I used back around 1990? It doesn't seem to be a current product any more, and the TX801 part number appears to have been recycled for a cleanroom swab now.
