DEC units on ebay

I just noticed this German eBay seller, who started listing quite a collection of Unibus and PDP-8 boards, however the boards seem quite pricey, especially with shipping outside of Germany. But I figured if someone is on the hunt for a particular oddball or rare board, perhaps worth a glance: https://www.ebay.com/usr/kunoku_de
(Not affiliated or anything)

Thanks for the heads up! I could not resist the TD8E and RK8E controller set. Initially, the RK8E was displayed with two M7104s and one M7105, while the M7106 was missing. I emailed the seller, and the seller has shipped the set with a M7104, M7105 and M7106. Since I'm in the Netherlands, the prices were okay for me Because I don't have to pay any customs duties, compared to when I have to buy these in the US.

I assume the boards are defective, so in time there might be a repair story... Who knows...

Regards, Roland

Saw this PDP11/23 for sale at the Dayton Hamvention. Don't think it sold, they wanted $1,100 and it was missing many boards. But, it was nice to see in the flea market.

Nice. I have a rack and pair of RL01 drives from a system like that, but unfortunately the computer had already been sold separately by the time I got it.

I don't have my pickup truck any more. I think the unit would fit in my little Subaru Forester, but I'd need to take it to bits to lift the pieces, and then it might not fit any more.

Originally listed in an unsuccessful $500-based auction with OBO set at $1500. Now the opposite at $1500 OBO.

Despite the "vintage" third-party Dyna Five chassis this apparently is a M7606-based MicroVAX II with the classic leaky-battery syndrome and an oddball misconfiguration. The module set appears to be as follows:

M7606-EF KA630-AA MicroVAX II CPU w/1-Mbyte, floating point, time of year clock, boot/diagnostic ROM, Q22
(with bulkhead panel & battery damage)
M7609-AF MS630-CA 8-Mbyte parity 36-bit RAM for KA630 (MicroVAX II)
Emulex QD21 ESDI Controller (rainbow ribbon; 2x white ribbon cables) & Two MAXTOR FH 5.25” drives
M3106 DZQ11 Quad Asynchronous Multiplexer (connected to bulkhead 4-way distribution panel)

The following two dual-height modules probably not part of the original (working) configuration?

VIK/QDT (white handles) = One MSCP Disk Port & One MSCP Tape Port & Erroneously connected as memory!!!
(see: TD_Systems_Inc_-_900-00036_Viking_Installation_Guide_Apr89.pdf)
M7516 DELQA (unconnected; no bulkhead panel)

If the system has been powered up I wonder whether that would have damaged the VIK/QDT?

Particularly as a complete 8/e front panel assembly just sold for $2,200. Oh my.
For a while I kind of knew what the 8 stuff is worth. I never bid on that one because it went up to twice what I was willing to spend early on.

We only know what the second place bidder is willing to spend, not what the guy who won was.

And now ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/397929974872

ULTRA RARE DEC PDP-8 “Straight-Eight” Minicomputer w/ Flip-Chip Modules Vintage
$24,995.00 USD O.B.O.
What I noticed the first time it was listed is that the power supply is missing.

It does appear to have the EAE option although the photo is not great and I didn't compare to see if anything is missing or misplaced.

There is also some corrosion so it has spent some time in less than optimum conditions.

I would certainly sell my machine for that price but mine has three racks full of stuff and most everything runs. On the other hand I would not offer nearly that much
for my machine. I did put that listing on my watch list, but like a lot of things I watch it mostly to see if someone is willing to pay that much.

I would love to have a straight 8, and I would love to make it working again... But I want to have a fair amount of fun for the money I have to pay. I don't think I have 25K worth of fun with a straight 8... And I think I would turn the Ebay machine into a desktop version with a modern power supply, because the original power seems to be missing.
