I got a bunch of Wyse keyboards where the terminal had so much burn-in, the terminal was unusable.
So I saw there was a PCB designed to use these keyboards on a modern computer....
So I spent almost a year trying to have 10 of them produced...
And here is the painful result...
They were assembled backwards, and are basically useless junk and have to be de-soldered and resoldered in the correct position.
My soldering experience is 5 minutes of it at the VCF east show....
YAY.

I'm a bit far away from you however I would suggest getting a Hakko 301 or clone and some junk boards to practice on.
The Hakko make desoldering thru hole parts so much easier. There are different diameter nozzles to fit the size of the pads you are trying to desolder.
