Digitronics 2540 repairs?

Has anyone done any repairs on the Digitronics 2540 paper tape reader? (Ok, the manual calls it a "perforated tape reader")
I haven't really evaluated the status of mine, but a visual inspection tells me that the rubber on the capstan is gone and needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately, the manual has only this about the capstan: "un numbered", "machined". No dimensions or measurements of the part.

Wow, my Digitronics has exactly the same problem as can be seen here, and not nearly as clean as yours is! The capstan cylinder (not the rubber) is 13.91mm dia and 43.3mm long. The rubber looks to be a layer on some sort of crumbly material, it could be cork or, given it is close to the incandescent lamp, something worse but I don't know. According to the manual the motor has to come out to get to the set screw that fixes it to the motor shaft.
As a guess it could probably be replaced with a piece of silicone tubing stretched on, ought to have enough grip and should be soft enough perhaps. Perhaps 10mm dia ID x 13mm dia OD might work?

I found one that was 10x12 mm and one that was 10x14 mm and would ship to Norway, I have ordered, we shall see if it works. Free shipping, so it will take a while.
