Dosbox is bloatware, but why?

Sorry guys, i'm a hardware freak, not a software freak. I don't even know how to get dosbox configured, other than installing it. I'm ok with playing the games on faster machines. I was just asking why Dosbox is heavy in resources, not intending on fixing it. I'm not sure if its a good idea to tinker with the GOG games. I think Dosbox is integrated in them. Has anyone had experience with downloaded GOG games and converting them run in VM in the first place?
