Drive B in my IMSAI now exhibits a very faint scratching noise while spinning.
I've localized it to the spindle.
I'm thinking the bearings.
Though I have a couple of spares, I think I'll try a bearing clean/repack on this.
Is there any general consensus on the type of grease to use?

OK... disassembly has started. The drive is a Qume 842. The symptom is a faint scratching noise from lower spindle when it is rotated.
The drive reads/writes perfectly.
Just want to head this off before it becomes a problem.
Anyone have experience in Qume bearings?

I had a Tandon drive that had bad bearings. It was a standard sealed bearing. I measured (digital micrometer)
Ordered a couple of new bearings online. Perfect fit.
Most small sealed bearings are not intended to be opened and repacked. YMMV.

I expect your Qume drives also use off the shelf bearings.

I hope so, these are 80's vintage.
I had to order a smaller internal bearing puller.
Once I get it out, I'll take some measurements.
Thanks for the tip!
