Most people will remember that we had a load of VAX Stations going begging a while ago.

Well, another opportunity has arisen for me to dispose of quite a bit of PDP-11 systems, cards, peripherals, media (but a few caveats with this) - and a few errant VAX machines that avoided the last give away!

All of this equipment is currently located in the Gloucester area for pick-up only. But, if it is a small amount of equipment you want and I know you, I could be persuaded to hold on to it for you and/or drop it off somewhere more convenient.

I will be inventorying the equipment presently (probably next week for the separate cards) and start posting the lists on this thread. First come, first served!

I will look at the complete systems later on.

I will probably have to keep hold of one of our systems to 'scrub' the media before I let that go. As with the previous VAXs - I kept hold of the disks and erased them before forwarding them on to people who wanted them.

I will have to sort out the 'paperwork' before letting things go from my end.

As previously, no money is required for the equipment - but a suitable donation to the Company Charity "Prostate Cancer UK" would be welcome.

Please don't inundate me with requests for equipment in the short term. I will post the inventory first and then happy to take PMs for whatever you want from the list and (most important to me) when you would be able to pickup from the Gloucester area!

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

These kind of postings always make me very curious :D It is a bit like digital archaeology... I would love to find boards for a MM11E, but I guess these are made of unobtanium... Too bad that you are on the other side of the pond. The restrictions make it impossible to go there... So just looking forward to the pictures of all the beauties you have found.

Regards, Roland

By “across the pond” I assume you mean the small pond to the UK with the current Covid restrictions?

I could take a photograph of the storeroom “aka the castle dungeon”!

Dave

Can you imagine how much fun it'd be to bring an -11 home from Gloucester to NYC?

I have an -11 that you can fit in your carry on luggage, it is an 11/02 in a BA11-VA;) Its like a small PC.

I saw one of those once in a Southern Bell engineering office. If I recall it had what I now assume was a TU58 sitting on top of it. They looked like they were styled to go together. I've since heard the BA-11VA referred to as a "pizza box." They do show up for sale from time to time and at one time I really wanted one. Then reality set in and I had to acknowledge that I already have more toys than I can play with.

Yes these small systems are lovely! I have a Tu58 somewhere in the basement. It has the same case style and size. Unfortunately I don't have a cpu case like this one. The 4 slots are very limiting to what you can do with it. But maybe I will find one in the future. I do have the boards for it already...:inlove:

I really like those but they are like Hen's teeth over here. I've been looking for a couple of years but no joy.

One day maybe.

Cheers,

Andy.

OK, here is the first list of 'stuff'...

Please note a few things:

1) Equipment disposal has not been formally agreed by my bosses yet. That is my 'challenge' for the remainder of the week,
2) Not sure where we are on supply of disk drive media.
3) There are still more QBUS PDP-11 stuff for me to go through - but I want to get some space on the shelves first.
4) I could do with getting rid of the VAXstation and MicroVAX machines ASAP.
5) I reserve the right to hold back certain bits as necessary.

If there is anything of interest to you, please PM me and I will put your name against bits. Note that I will require you to arrange collection from Gloucester.

Regards,

Dave

OK,

I have been given formal permission by my management to dispose of the equipment.

However, there is paperwork for me to fill out (in triplicate) before disposal...

For those who have sent PMs - I will get back to you shortly and organise a date & time with you to collect and what you are able to take away with you on the day. I may also offer a "buy one for nothing get one free" service!

Still plenty of equipment left though... Please pass the message on to other people you know. If it doesn't go within a month or so - it will go for scrap :-(!

I will contact a few of the museums within the UK directly. Not sure how much interest there would be though. If anyone has any contacts they could PM me - I would be most grateful.

Dave

Just posted more VAX and IT equipment for disposal in "Marketplace", "Vintage Computer Items For Sale or Trade" under the heading "Digital VAX and IT equipment - free for collection Gloucester UK. Suggested donation to charity.".

I will be updating this with peripheral devices and the left-over PDP-11 QBUS cards presently.

Please spread the word elsewhere to save it going to the recyclers...

Dave

I have a Kennedy 9612 SCSI 1/2” magnetic tape drive that is surplus to requirements.

Is anyone interested in this?

Preferably, pick up from Gloucester (UK).

There is no charge, but an appropriate donation to the Prostate Cancer UK Charity would be appreciated.

Any takers?

Dave

Well, Christmas has now come and gone - but Easter is on the horizon...

All of the VAX and PDP-11 systems have now gone (apart from the one that is coming home with me of course :))... Thank you to all who collected and made a voluntary donation to the Prostate Cancer UK charity.

I have been sorting out what is left, and I have a number of peripherals that need to find new homes ASAP. These will be pick-up from Gloucester - or I could arrange to drop off (or meet up) if you live not too far away from the M5/M6 motorways between Gloucester and Lancaster. A suitable donation to the Prostate Cancer UK charity would be welcome once again to raise much needed funds.

I have available for collection:

2 off DECServer 300.
9 off DECServer 200/MC.
3 off DECServer 200/DL.
1 off Digital ThinWire Ethernet Singleport Repeater.
1 off Cisco 2513.
1 off BICC Isolan Primary Bridge. Type 1400-0.
3 off BICC Isolan fan-outs (8 male 1 female drop cable connectors) - similar to DEC DELNI.
1 off BICC Isolan repeater. Type 1120.

6 off RX50-AA Dual Floppy Disk drive units. Naked. Some with mounting skids.
3 off RX50-R - PSU, power switch, indicators, cables - no case. No drive!
1 off RD52-D - PSU, power switch, indicators, cables - no case. No disk drive!
1 off RX50-R complete with drive in an external case. Front panel states RD54 though!
1 off H780/F PSU and front panel. Looks like the control panel for an 11/23 (or similar). Contains DC ON/OFF, ENABLE HALT and LTC ON/OFF switches and indicators.
2 off TZ87 tape drives each in an external case.
1 off TK70 naked tape drive.
2 off TK50 tape drives. 1 naked. 1 in an external box (no front panel).
1 off Sony SDT-1000 Digital Data Storage (tape unit) - naked.
1 off EXABYTE EXB-8200 tape drive - naked.
1 off EXABYTE tape drive in a 19" rack mounting unit. SCSI/PSU.
1 off Dual CD-ROM drives in a 19" rack mounting unit. SCSI/PSU.
1 off DEC RC25 disk unit. We may have to discuss how we handle the internal hard disk of this unit. I would also like to see this go to a 'good home' - and would like to see it resurrected and working if possible. No removable disk cartridges available for this item (unfortunately).

Note: None of the above has been tested. If I get my 11/73 system set-up presently (I will need this to erase the various RDxx and SCSI disks I have before putting these up for disposal) I might be able to test the RX50 and TK50 devices out.

Note: My boss would like these gone as quickly as possible! If you desire something - let me know and I could put it into my storage locker for a later pickup.

Let me know (via Direct Mail) if you are interested and we can arrange for collection.

I still have a number of boxes of DEC QBUS cards available. Mainly DLV11-J serial and MRV11 D/C ROM boards - but some CPU and RAM boards left. Also, an assortment of various peripheral cards.

Hi Dave,

I don't suppose that you have any spare Micro PDP 11/53 / 73 hard disk mounting slides left?

I am also after a DIL Xtal for an 11/23 CPU board. I can find other frequencies but not the ones used by DEC on the 11/23.

Thanks

Peter
