Getting Windows 2 to work on my XT / 286

Hi all,

when I start up Windows 2 on my 286, I get the Microsoft blue logo, then a bunch of garbled text then it spits me back to the DOS prompt. I've seen this before, years ago, but I can't remember exactly how I fixed it.

I seem to remember using setver to trick it into running, can anyone remember how that's done? Hopefully that will fix the problem but it may be something else.

My setup is an IBM 5160 with a Tulip 286 card in it, 700K usable RAM with MS-DOS 6.22. I have an ATI EgaWonder 800+ on an IBM 5153.

setver.exe win200.bin 3.40 seems to be the correct command.

Though 700kB of RAM suggests a system using the video segments for code which negatively impacts the ability of Windows to use those segments for graphics. If setver does not work, please post the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
