Hello,

I finally found that this is the place for profiles!

I was born a long time ago in Yorkshire, England; but moved to London as a teenager, and then to the USA, where I stayed for 30 years (Indiana, Michigan, and Texas), as a university professor of Audio. I am a musician (harpsichord, instrumental and choral conductor, Mahler researcher), Electronic Engineer (d.c. to 30 GHz) and Tonmeister. More detail on www.fugato.com/pickett if really desperate to know! In 2013 I retired and moved to Vienna, Austria. In the 1980s I had a Kaypro II, which I modified and used extensively, then a NeXT, BBC/Acorn PC. Then, around 1992 I was forced by commercial music writing software to to move to PCs, which I have built myself. I misguidedly disposed of my Kaypro when I moved back to Europe.

In April 2026 I bought a Kaypro II/IV (ser. 73180). Evidence of missing screws, etc, tells me that this machine has been abused by a previous owner and, as of this writing, I am engaged in bringing it back to how it should be. My aim is to get back to using Perfect Writer for creating documents, as EMACS on the PC is not the same stimulating experience.

I am greatly encouraged by the enormous number of kind and experienced people here, and their willingness to share their knowledge.

Welcome!

Audio, you say? Maybe we could have some talks if you wanted.

Have a great time!

Welcome David.

Vienna is a lovely place. Been on many a holiday to Austria. Lakes and Mountains walking holidays mainly.

I was born in Lancashire (well, technically Westmoreland) - so the other side of the Pennines to you...

Ah, Vienna is one of my favorite cities to visit!

I'm in Nashville, TN, which has the nickname "Music City, USA", but I consider Vienna to be THE "Music City". Plus the wine is very good. 😄

Nice to know you, Jeff. I've been to Nashville TN. There's also a Nashville, IN, near to where I used to live (Bloomington IN, another music city). I saw and heard Bill Monroe in Nashville IN.

Small world! I worked as a musician in my younger days and played several times at the "Little Nashville Opry" that used to be up there. (I grew up not far away in Jeffersonville, IN, just across the river from Louisville.)
