I just found out about this forum and registered.

I'm a retired programmer. I retired a few years ago for health reasons. Since then I've played at programming a little but I never seem to complete anything and that's just fine with me.

I'm pretty interested in computers micros of old. I don't have a lot of interest in mainframes or minis even though I began my career on mainframes and spent a lot of the latter days programming DG minis. When I first encountered an Apple II+ computing went beyond interesting work and became a joy.

A decade ago I began collecting old portables but I had to stop working before that got very far. I do have a few Radio Shack Model 100s and a Model 102 and a Tandy 1100hd. Also some 386 and 486 laptops but, while those are hardly very modern anymore I don't think they're really vintage yet.

My favorite toys are an HP 200lx palmtop with MS-Dos 5 and turbo C and Tasm on board. It's a pretty nice small dos machine. And a Compaq Aero 4/25 mono 486 laptop. That's the small one that gets about 6 hours on a charge with the extended battery.

I never do anything useful with these things and with any luck I never will. But I start a lot of stuff on them.

Yes, the 386 & 486 machines are welcome at
comp.sys.ibm.pc.classic, so they can also be
discussed in here. I'm running CP/M-86 on my
386 laptop, so even that makes it seem more
of a Vintage machine. If I had Win3.1 on it, then
it may seem to sound a bit too mod con-ish.

If ya need vintage software (abandonware) to make your old PCs more interesting, try alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.old.

Aparantly not a lot of people are aware of
c.s.i.p.c, I found out about this group from
someone in the Amstrad newsgroup c.s.a.8
because too many Amstrad PC owners were
posting there questions there (aparantly
they didn't realise that it was for the Amstrad
8bits - CPCs, PCWs & NCs computers).
Unfortunately, not a lot of people post at
c.s.i.p.c because the fan club isn't large &
occasionally there's some yahoo who has
to spill their opinion! ;-) But it's been quite
good now, if you like it nice & quiet! ;-)

Having been to the folklore I can understand
how busy that is! ;-)
