Okay, I've a gaylord box full of HP and Agilent Helium-Neon Gas Lasers. The chambers are between 6" and 10", most have optics and I don't think any of them have power supplies.

I'm assuming we acquired them for the aluminum, but they are in super awesome condition nonetheless.

Not sure what colour they would produce. Anybody know anything about lasers?

Hello, I think the thread is a bit misplaced, but it's red-orange. you need about 5KV to strike the tube, and then about 1 to 2 KVDC to run it. but the current must be limited with a series resistor 68K to 150K or so High voltage & high wattage capable (usually you use about 4 or 5 resistors in series).

Here's what looks like a fairly useful link i googled.

A useful transformer if you can get one is used for supplying about 750V to cold cathode (not neon) tubes used for signs etc.

ah and the cathode (-ve ) is usually connectred near the end mirror.

BEWARE- it's fun & pretty, but IT'S ALL DEADLY!!!

nig.

Those are Dr. Evil lasers! I remember when those things were on sale as surplus in a few places w/out power supplies. Yes, high voltage needed! Fun stuff!

Ooh! they look cool! Can I have one? I promise I won't set up a 4 corner laser system to blast squirrels that set foot on my property! ;)
