Not sure if anyone's utilized this cubbyhole before but a 1" high 3.5" drive fits nicely under floppy drive B in a 5150 chassis without substantially ruining the standard appearance.
I found a spare tray and glued it in place. The drive is a Conner 170 MB SCSI and the 8-bit controller is an NCR-based, optimistically-named "Data Cannon." The drive only adds 5 watts, so the standard PS seems fine.
EDIT: I see my other earlier 5150 (both model B) does not have this space available so it looks like it doesn't apply to all of them.
