I'm curious if anyone here might have the scoop on the IPS patch format which is common in video game romhacking communities. I did a bit of research and the earliest references I could find were early 90s in various romhacking documentation. One suggestion was that it originated on the Amiga.
Either way its simply a magic number, entry after entry of addresses, lengths, and payloads to write, and an EOF marker. I've been wanting to locate the primary source on the format if possible. It has accumulated several extensions out in the wild but these originate in specific patchers rather than being some promulgated thing.
