I started thinking of having this in the Job/School thread, though it's really a topic in itself when you start breaking stuff down.

I'll just start by looking at what I do on a weekly basis:
  • Work @ 40 hours
  • Internet @ approx 28 hours
  • Sleep @ 56 hours
  • Voluntry work @ at most 8 hours
  • Personal Time @ 36 hours
Which basically equates to 168 hours in the week - Personal time and Voluntry time can also conflict, sometimes I do 8 hours though outside 2 hour work periods it's personal time at Friends or home or occassionally I do paid work on weekends!

Not sure if this helps me or not because my time management strategy stinks. I'm suprised I'm using 36 hours Personal time cause there's time I'm using before I go to work - however it's Personal time, though time I would rather sit/relax and listen to music it's time I'd rather see the back of.

I love Voluntry work and it takes a good deal of time - cause that is what hand weeding is all about - of course it works best in conjunction with Bushland restoring itself and has suitable plants to outcompete with weeds.

Sadly it doesn't leave me much time to socialise on a personal level and is of course something I'm starting to think more about! :-o

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Anyway I just jotted this thread down so others can do the same.

College - 35 hours
Work - 15 hours
College work - 4 hours
Various instrument practice - 6 hours
Internet/reading/telephone/socialising - All the rest

Nowhere near as cramped as yours, cp/m!

Used to go to concert band practice about 2 hours too but stopped that because the times all got jiggled about :(

Hmmmm....let's see...

63 Hours at work
6 Hours going back and forth to work
63 Hours Sleeping
6 Hours for Television (glued to the set, not just background)
4 Hours for Dining Out

That leaves 26 hours for everything else: cooking, laundry, housekeeping, pet tending, hobbies, etc.

Of course, I do a lot of my surfing/screwing around on the web at work, so I don't have to fit much of it into that last 26 hours.

School--37.5 hours
Cooking--15 hours
T.V--7 hours
Sleep-61.666 hours
Computer/free time--30.5
Work--12 hours
(home business, I repair/sell electronics)
In the bathroom/Shower-4.334 hours

Is the sum of my week, which is pretty much the same give or take an hour August 28th-June 5th. After that, take out all of that school time, and slap an extra 7 hours of that onto sleep, then take 3/4th of the number left and put it into the free time pile, and put the rest of that number into work.

--Ryan( I think I will make a graph of the hours in my life, now...)

That's interesting what others have jotted down, you all seem to have some grasp of the concept of Time Management.

bbcmicro - yes, I decided to do a little time management cause some of my problems seems to be getting extra work done, though my workplace at the moment is simply booming with work needing to be done. I feel though that I'm getting on top of some of this, though some of the work being done requires additional time which makes the time already being used to address certain issues being wasted.

Weekly? Hell, I'm lucky if I can keep track of a single day at a time. Here's a typical day for me:

10:00-or-so, Wake up

10:00 - 10:30, Sit up, smoke a few ciggies

10:30, Make coffee, smoke a couple more

10:45 - 11:00, Drink coffee, smoke some more

11:00, Take first meds, turn on television (TVGuide channel), let dogs out

11:00 - 11:45, Ignore TV, bring frozen forgotten dogs in

11:45 - 12:00, Watch TVGuide scroll, turn off TV since there's nothing on worth watching

12:00, Turn on computer

12:00 - 3:00, Check messages, etc.

3:00 - 6:00, Check out eBay auctions

6:00 - 8:00, Turn TV on, ignore it, drink beer

8:00 - 10:00, Take nap

10:00 - 1:00, Drink more beer, watch TV, take last meds for the day

1:00, Konk out for the night (if I'm lucky)

Wow ! almost exactly my own schedule in the winter. I tend to blame it on my blood pressue medicine, but have trouble forcing myself to even do any walking exercise.

No T, we are passionate sorts. If we aren't involved we tend ro go into hibernation. It's part of how we subsist. The Terry who wanted to move down to N'awleans and likely help the screwed over people there. You were enthusiastic about it. We need your type of person now, whether in New Orleans, city centers, or even in the troubled Indian reserves in Canada. That defines you, not the ill-informed BS of small-town Michigan supposed health-givers. The big cities are indeed cold and uncaring but the smaller communities are judgemental and threatened. Frightened of losing their jobs or advantages. And in smaller communities an outlaw is more of a threat than in larger communities, to privelege.

Hey T. I'm aiming for a small habana around Vera Cruz, Mexico, where even what I pay for heating here in a month in northern Canada could pay for 3 months w/housekeeper on the carribean coast. You of course would be welcome.

May as well leave it in style. My life is presented without embellishments or secrets.

Fsck it.

Well considering the level of detail you've provided us for a day that's still pretty good. I'm assuming though that those drink breaks include some kind of meal?

weekly...
12 hrs school stuff
20 hrs work
40 hrs sleep if I'm lucky
40 hrs online (school and my own stuff combined)
and the rest of the time is spent runing errands, picking up medicines or taking everybody around. I'm the only one that drives. In the little amount of time I have to myself I get to work on the machines here.

I sometimes eat, too :)

I've been a night forager all my life, so midnite chow is usually my main meal of the day. I start cooking somewhere around 10:00 - 12:00, depending what's on the menu. Tonight, I made a beef stir-fry, from 11:30 - to - 12:00 (very tasty, snow peas, carrots, celery, broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, etc). I love to cook almost as much as wrenching on hotrods or computin'/collecting.

I too blame the heavy duty psyche meds I take (Seroquel, Prozak, Depacote, etc), but lazyness and apathy accounts for some of it too.

I've spent the last several years hibernating too, but I'm coming around to the land of the living again lately. I'm still working on the NOLA thing tho. I've aquired an old motor home, so L/Q should be no problem. I don't mind becoming a vagabond again, but considering the shape I'm in, whatever creature comforts I can take advantage of is a plus. I mean, I just can't see myself sleeping on a hunk of cardboard in a doorway somewhere. My timeframe is (tentatively) scheduled for next summer, depending on my physical condition.
I have spent considerable time on daRez, both in Canada and here. I was even (unofficially) adopted into a tribe in Thunder Bay, back in '79.

I've always wanted to spend a year or two in Central America, mebbe Nicaragua or El Salvadore, whatever. My barely-adequate income here would go a long ways in the third world. If ya get set up in VC, lemme know, I just might pay you a visit.

I dunno, my life is at least 50% embellishment and 50% secrets, but I make no excuses. I am what I am, and I play the cards I'm dealt, nothing more, nothing less.

I hate to be the prude, but this area is open, searchable, and archived by other sites. So unless you really want to advertise to your future employers, girlfriends and extended family how you lived your life in Dec 2007, I would advise a little discretion.

Second, I made a small edit to Micom's post. You will note the removal of the '-' from the sensitive word. I assume that was just a typo on your part and that you did not mean to put the '-' in the word. So I changed it to an 's', which makes the word fsck. Fsck is the command for checking the hard disk filesystem format on a Unix system. So I am assuming that you meant to encourage and exhort our gentle readers to check their hard drives for errors.

My lifestyle is pretty sporadic.....

40-60 hrs work - I work as a contractor, and some weeks my workload is lower than others, other weeks my workload is high and, at times I even have extra projects to keep me busy on the weekend and make more moolah.

20-60 hrs sleep - Some weeks I run around in a sleep deprived haze, particularly when I'm having problems with anything around me that needs repaired. Other times all I do is work and sleep, particularly if I'm just not in a leisurely mood or need money more than usual, or am working a huge ton, and other times I just go the normal amount for most people.

30-40 hrs online ("school" and my own stuff combined) - I use the internet as a tool to learn stuff, that's actually my favorite use for it and why I wanted it in the first place. I run all over the place going to networking, hardware, operating system, luthiery (guitar building), and Explorer/Auto Mechanics websites learning about the various things I'm interested in and learning new skills just for the sake of learning them. The rest of the time involves showing-off on youtube, arguing and eventually setting stupid/annoying folks on ignore, and patronizing forums.

1-10 hours doing chores - I don't spend a lot of time on it, first off being I don't make much mess to begin with (usually, right now anyone could beg to differ), and secondly being that I live in a studio apartment, really all I have to do is vaccum, do laundry, dishes, and scrub things down once in awhile. Life's not that hard in that area, usually.

The rest of the time is spent playing guitar, writing songs, walking around/driving around the area searching for computer parts/software/peripherals, and doing other similarly as important things, and the rare case where I'm actually socializing in some way.

What do I care, my reputation's ruined already.
With a little luck, I'll be going underground soon, before FEMA comes to disappear me, so nobody will know where to find me except WallMart employees and other boondockers.

Not to make you paranoid or anything, T., but I'd look for little tiny GPS units in those meds LOL

My schedule is simplicity itself.

Sacktime = 7 hours per day (this comprises sleeping, trying to go to sleep and trying to stay asleep.

Other = 3 hours per day (consists of eating, taking care of the animals, working up the energy to work and 1 hour of TV with the dog)

Work = 14 hours per day

Note: schedule runs 7 days a week

Hmm, this is a tough one.

Let's see a typical day, Monday through Friday, might go something like this...

6:30 - 8:00 - Get woken up by one year old daughter
8:00 - 9:00 - Shower/get ready for work/take supplements/take care of cats/make sure dog is out
9:00 - 10:00 - Get butt to work.
10:00 - 10:15 - Arrive at work.
10:15 - 1:00 - Do work, check e-mails, browse Web, maybe do some personal freelance stuff
1:00 - 2:15 - Lunch
2:15 - 4:40 - Do work, check e-mails, browse Web, maybe do some personal freelance stuff
4:45 - 5:00 - Leave Work
5:00 - 6:30 - Drive home
6:30 - Arrive at home, get things in order, check on both daughters and wife if she's home yet
6:50 - If lucky, change into comfortable clothes
7:30 - Eat dinner
7:30 - 9:00 - Family time/TV
9:00 - Put girls to bed
9:30 - 10:15 - Work out with wife (if it's a training day, otherwise TV or maybe a videogame with the wife)
10:15 - 11:00 - Wash up for night
11:00 - 2:00 - Sometimes play videogames with the wife, sometimes do freelance writing, sometimes play with my collection, sometimes just fall asleep in bed with the TV on, etc.
- Sleep until day starts over

The weekend is pretty much the same thing, except instead of work, it's more family time and shopping... Not a bad life, pretty typical I imagine and obviously there are variables, like occasionally after hours work or other things I'm doing of course...

I wake up at 6.30, and get to work at 7.45-8.00. I work for about 10 hours incl. lunch and breaks and possibly go shopping or run other errands. I get home about 19, and prepare tomorrow's lunch (*), sometimes wash dishes or other household chores, play with the computer(s) until midnight or a little past. Counting in hours, it looks a bit like this:

Work: 50 hours/week
Sleep: 50 hours/week (6h/weekday, 10h/weekend)
Transport: 3 hours/week
Cooking and household chores: 10 hours/week
Social activities: 3 hours/week

That would leave about 50 hours/week for play time, watching TV and everything else.

Now to geek things up, aren't we all supposed to be doing this in our favorite programming language? ;o)

I don't have time to figure out my scrambled schedule right now but maybe I'll code it up later, although that would conflict with my lazy and tired routine that usually run after the long work and driving routine.

BTW, a more interesting thing is I haven't seen anyone include their depressing rush hour time which I was about to do, I guess people bundled it into work or forgot (which is unusual but positive thinking).

I mentioned it. It takes me just over an hour to drive to work and anywhere from just over an hour (optimistically) to an hour and a half to two hours to get home. It definitely fatigues and frustrates me, but that's the way it is with the house/work distance...

I'm pretty sure I mentioned drive time as well, approximately an hour per day to get back and forth...
