Hello all,

I recently purchased my first Tandy machine: a 1000 RL/HD. It was mostly functional, meaning that it booted into Deskmate and seemed to function fine when I got it home. During the boot sequence, random colors would flash across the screen, but it still booted properly. Thinking this was a memory issue, I went into settings and activated the memory check. Now, the screen flashes random colors and gibberish characters, throws a 4-3-1 beep code, and refuses to boot. This code seems to indicate RAM Test Address Failure, based on my research. Am I right in thinking this indicates bad memory? Is there a way to bypass this check, since the computer seemed to at least partially function before?
Here is the screen I see upon boot, which does change every time:

Thanks for your wisdom

You should not disable the check. You have bad memory; you need to isolate and replace the bad memory DIMM until the check clears.

If you disable the check, you'll have no idea if a program doesn't run if it's the program or the RAM. That's not a good way to run a system.
