How to turn on /off the back-up battery in an Epson PX-8

I own an old PX-8 that I have not used in a long time and would like to restore to working conditions.
Could someone please let me know if the 'ON' position of the switch for the backup battery is toward the keyboard or away from the keyboard?

Are you talking about the power switch on the right side, or a different switch on the underside? (I ask because I was not aware there was a switch for the backup battery!)
 
In the main battery compartment, right next to the socket where the wire from the main battery connects, there is a switch to turn on and off the back-up battery.
 
Mine has a sticker showing the "ON or "OFF" for the backup battery. I totally forgot about this switch. Hopefully this picture answers your question.

I have just had a look at my battery compartment, and I must admit, I have the sticker too. Being on the side of the compartment, I had missed it. In any case, you solved my problem. Many thanks!
 
Bonus questions: Do you have any leakage from the backup battery?

This thread brought some anxiety as I have a PX-8 that I haven't used in over 15 years or so, and I surely didn't think of switching off the backup battery. (Mine is at least missing the main battery, a wire hangs out going to an external PSU that feeds it with whichever the battery voltage is, so at least there is no risk of leakage from the missing main battery).
 
None of the batteries were leaking. Because of the age, I have replaced all three batteries (including the one in the 128k RAM) with new NiMH batteries. For the moment, I have not reinstalled the 128k RAM. The computer does not work, though. I get some screen flickering (and a few vertical lines) when I turn it on and off. And that's about it. The voltage of the main battery is around 5.5V. The computer was working in 2015, when I last used it, and didn't have apparent issues when I opened it up to change the backup battery.
